 Gheenoe/River Hawk
Anyone run a longtail on these things? I have a River Hawk B-52, 15'8'' long, and 52 inch wide, but tapers in towards the transom. I am debating between a 9 or 6.5 (motor restrictions). Found a good deal on a go devil 9, but worried about the weight (140). Would it be better to run a 6.5 with half the weight or get a 9? I am running through vegetation and shallow water. No real mud, but impossible to drive an outboard through.

You could probably get away with a 16hp so I would go the 9 route. 6.5 is slowwwwwwwww. What is the boat rated for hp wise. Pretty sure I've seen up to a 25 on those. Check out the mud motor videos on this forum. Look for the poster NFW. He has a video with a gheenoe running pretty good in the background. viewtopic.php?f=18&t=20574

 Re: Gheenoe/River Hawk
It's rated for a 15, and a max capacity of 650 I think can't remember off the top of my head.

 Re: Gheenoe/River Hawk
I'm running a 6 on a 15ft riverhawk (not the b-52). It does a good job for what I use it for. You know it won't turn for shi%, and it's a little awkward to run a longtail from a narrow riverhawk. But, on those boats there isn't a better option right now. I haven't gps'd it, but it pushes two guys down the lake plenty fast for me. It won't plane out the boat though. But, I wouldn't want to hit a stump in that boat with it planed out anyway. On a B-52 you could probably get away with an 8-9hp and would get more push out of it.

 Re: Gheenoe/River Hawk
Thanks for the replies. Tight turns aren't really an issue as I hunt a fairly open lake. Did you ever have any problems with the back end up your boat running to low to the water or anything? Or any problems with weight on the transom when trailering the boat?

 Re: Gheenoe/River Hawk
No problems with my 6hp. Draft is fine in the back. I had a 4 stroke 8hp and it had about an inch of freeboard with me sittin in it. You can see from the pics it sits high.

 Re: Gheenoe/River Hawk
SuperDave4x4, that's an awesome setup you've got there...I wish my Gheenoe was set up a little more open like that, especially with the gun box. Are those mounts on the side for a Flyway Specialties blind?
