 battery for SWOMP 23
Picking up my SWOMP 23 (my first LT!) for my 1448 in a couple weeks. What is the smallest size battery you guys recommend for this engine (vanguard). Want to get the smallest possible in the interest of minimizing weight.
Thanks,

 Re: battery for SWOMP 23
Congrats on the swomp , you'll love it , you could use an actual lawnmower battery , it is a lawn mower motor . But most use a 12v 650cca or bigger for starting and running other accessories .

 Re: battery for SWOMP 23
I agree with huck, you need to get enough cranking amps! On the plus side, your 23 is probably equipped with a recoil start- have you tried starting the motor with that? I know I don't have one on my 27 Kohler LT so if my battery runs down I am out of luck. I have a marine starting battery, 850 cca because I run the lights, the bilge, and sometimes a trolling motor (not during duck season) and the weight of it up front helps to balance my rig. If you do go the lawmower route, I suggest getting two- the weight would still be a bit less than one large battery, or one plus an emergency start box. Can you start your 23 with the recoil pull start and NO battery? Let us know how it goes.

 Re: battery for SWOMP 23
I use a lawnmower battery and keep a spare onboard.

 Re: battery for SWOMP 23
I'm pretty sure it has pull start. I don't think I'll be running any accessories. What shoud the minimum CCA's be for just starting?

 Re: battery for SWOMP 23
I run my Swomp 23 with a 750 cca deep cycle. The pull start is a great feature and was a selling point for me. You can run with no battery if you want/have to. My luck, my battery will go to hell in the middle of nowhere. If you are running lights and other accessories go with a good deep cycle. No accessories, I'd still get a good deep cycle that way you have enough battery should you change your mind and add nav lights, head lights, 12 volt outlets, radio etc. Those few amenities are nice to have.
