Post subject:  Galvanizing a longtail

Looking for a longtail to run in brackish and shallow salt water for were I hunt. I've rarely seen any galvanized longtails out there. Just wondering, how expensive, how hard, and where can you get your frame galvanized if it's not brand new?

Back water had some when I picked up my motor. No idea about doing it on a used one.

I galvanized a whole lot of Go-Devil frames when I was in the business, mostly long tails. Not sure why you can't find one but...... to galvanize a painted frame you will need to take it all the way down. That means no grease fittings, no bushings, no nothing just the shaft tube with the frame welded on. You will need to remove all paint & grease from the frame also welding flux (may be present & painted over must be mechanically removed). After you get it back you will need to "clean" excess zinc to reinstall grease fittings and re-install bushings. Before you start the process make sure you can find a galvanizer that takes small jobs and does not have a big minimum charge.

I'm sure they don't sell just the frame, but Go-Devil sell long tails with galvanized frams.
