Btw
I read on a post that this motor had some issues when it went WOT (wide open throttle)

Have you ran it yet???
The poster said he went to oriley auto parts and got a better fuel pulp and that fixed the problem

It bolted down, its the plate that moves up and down and bolts to the transom mount then has 1 big bolt in center that connects to motor frame so you can turn left and right ,the original one I had on frame and new plate are exactly the same thickness so idk

Yea I have about 15 hours on it and have ran it wot down river a long ways,so far its fine, stock pump works well but my tank is in back of boat and I did shorten my fuel line to just enuff to work right turning, also got a primer bulb on it.my old briggs wouldnt run wot without a epump it would die anything over half throttle.

Are you still turning a 9x4 prop? what speeds where you getting with the 16 vanguard?

Yep still 9x4 and around 17/18 mph but in the briggs defense the governor kept it around 3500 rpm I never messed with it.
And the predator has a stiffer gov spring on it so I can get the rpm up in water.

Those speeds are unloaded and usually me and 1 other in boat, and biggreen if I had a 20hp van I wouldn't go for the predator unless the van is just worn out, only reason I went predator is my budget, tbh I beat the hell out of my 16 and it wouldn't die,I hope the 670 holds up to the grind, you always get what you pay for in the long run.
So far im happy with the predator, and it seems like its going to be ok,I been frogging 3 times so far with no problems, dug it in some thick neck deep grass and mud and it has had no trouble,I have really tried to stick it a couple times,it didnt struggle to push me out, with the boat on bottom.

Any updates? I just purchased at 16hp go-devil. The motor is from 1999 and was used in the salt marshes here in Texas. I'm debating on spending $200 and fixing up the vanguard vs dropping the 22 predator in there. I have was told by GD I'd need the plate and the prop upgraded to a 9x6

I got a predator 670 on my long tail and had it almost a year February will be a year and have not had too much problem with it only thing I had was a ground issue it would make it stalled out on the water every hundred feet or so put extra ground wires and it fixed it also had to get a fuel pump makes it easier to get fuel and it runs about 17 miles an hour on my boat like to know anymore please ask thank you for making this post I enjoyed reading it

Your welcome thank you for checking it out
Here is some more stuff on it in the engine mod chat viewtopic.php?t=68566 and yes I had to go back to a electric fuel pump the vacuume pump couldn't keep up.

Motor is almost 2 Years old now and over 300 hours on the tiny tach, still going strong I use it year round.

And yes roddawg I had to go up to a 9x6 less rpm same speed but bigger prop and more hp = more torque on tiller handle that s.o.b will throw you out of the boat if your not holding on.

I have already bent the frame tube right where the bracing is welded on,that the driveshaft rides in from torque and digging in mud, easy fix just put it between 2 trees and bend the frame straight.
