 keyway
I just got a used mud buddy 24hp long tail. Below the u joint is a key way and I'm missing the key. I don't see it on the mud buddy parts site. Is it something I need to call for?

 Re: keyway
Would a piece of .keystock from the hardware store not suffice?

 Re: keyway
It should. I don't remember the size. You'll have to measure it, but probably 1/4"

 Re: keyway
You can get a key from a hardware store and cut off what you need. No need in ordering that!

 Re: keyway
Some 3/4 yokes have .25 keyways, some have .188 keyways. The motor will most def be 1/4 inch keyway but the prop side can be either one. Measure with a caliper or micrometer. Can get key stock for either size at a hardware store or auto parts store. Easy to find. If you need the .188 size, in fraction form it's 3/16

 Re: keyway
For .79 cents I'd buy 2 1/4" keys at the hardware store and keep a spare in the boat.

 Re: keyway
This past season near the end the key slipped out. I bought an oversize one and it held for a couple of hunts till I got it properly fixed plus some beefier set screws; good thing the shaft was good and also the bearing but I had to replace the seals. No chit, on my first LT, an 18 GD, many moons ago, I was upriver and the key slipped out so I jammed some sardine can keys in there and it held enough to get putt back the ten miles to the landing.
