Post subject:  Set up question. 1648 Polar riveted w/ 25hp Kohler MB

I have just bought a used 1648 Polarkraft riveted with a 25hp MB LT. The boat has a complete aluminum floor and deck along with blind and gun box. I took it out yesterday for the first time with just my son (145) and I (285). I have no tach on the motor and the propeller is worn, MB recommends a 9x7 for this motor. The propeller measure 8.1" at he widest point. The boat seems to not have the speed I was hoping for. I was hoping for 17-19, and although we did not measure the speed, I am sure it was not going that fast.

My question are these.

1. Would pods on the back help, especially with 280 in the rear?

2. Is the prop worn enough to warrant replacement, for more speed?

3. What prop would be recommended considering I will be adding at least another 150lbs of gear for hunting.

Thanks in advance. I have been reading and learning on here for a while and look forward to your answers.

#1 Yes
#2 Yes
#3 MB, GD, BackH20, all make good props; even though your motor and my 27 are rated for a 9x7, a 9x6 may work better. Always have a spare!
The only other recommendation I will make is to do the usual maintenance (plugs, oil and gas filter, check fuel lines, make sure your kill switch works). Synthetic oil/grease IMO is better.

Thanks. I have a new 9x6 on the way.
