Post subject:  bearing and seals replacements

Hello MMT,

First time posting but been sneaking around for a while here and have a question:

For all of us that run LTs rather than try to go back to the dealers for bearings/bushing and seals, why not just order from grainger and use lip seals.. Not sure how many oilfield workers we have on here but my thoughts are something similar to repacking/ replacing seals in a stuffing box for a C-pump.. Here what I was thinking:

2 or 3 sets of bearing in bearing housing, 2 lip seals (spring facing towards bearing), 1 lip seal (facing prop), wear washer and balanced shaft clamp. With all that it comes to ~$160.00 for new everything. Lip seals run ~$5.00 per seal.

Load the bearings, fit your seals, set your wear washer and torque the shaft clamp.. What are your thoughts?

Some do that all the time. Not everyone on here is mechanically inclined, though, it's easier for them to pick up the phone and say send me these....
