I feel like that tapered shaft will give you fits.

But it may not!

Thanx
Its gonna be a slow build,i need exhaust, stator, universal and shaft and wheel.
The shaft and wheel that came with the frame is trash.
Locally i can buy a shaft for $68.00 already threaded and keyed 74 in length.
I need around 72 in of shaft .....no pun intended.

And im thinking ill need a 9x5 prop

She fits nicely on the frame, minor trimming required.
Gonna replace both upper n lower bushings.not sure where to look for parts.
The lower bushing is cross thread.....probally why the shaft is tore up.

Looks a lil cross threaded lol.
Cut off that collar and I'll machine a lower roller bearing set up this weekend.

If not I have some brass stock we can machine a bushing.

The lower skeg is way to long, ill have to cut it or.....remove old sealand extend this tube with new seal setup.
Im thinking pipe collar and close nipple, with bushing and seal....or bearings.
On top ill put a 2 bolt flange bearing.

Gonna run a flanged bearing on the top side,on the lower end ill take the original top packing and run on the bottom.
But the original packing is made for electrical conduit....not intended to have a rotating shaft in there.
In the long run it will eat shafts.
Im thinking brass bushing and greese seals....keep her full of greese.
Any ideas on what to use that would be better.
I could go bearing with seals.....but i dread a bearing failure.

With all the concern for bearings in the bottom, never been stranded by bearings going out in a longtail or surface drive. There are a lot more bearings on that end of drive shafts than bushings being run (surface drives count).

Call backwater, see if they'll sell you a revoclean. Or get a cap (seals are built in) and bearings from MudBuddy, then weld the appropriate collar on the bottom of the shaft housing for the bearings.

All the Backwater Parts for sale on their website:
http://www.backwaterinc.com/store/c4/Pa ... ories.html

Also, they're props work really well. My 22 predator came with a 9x6. I tried their 9x7 and 9x8 also. The 9x7 gave me the best results with both speed, and carrying the load with speed. The 9x8 was fastest, but fell off with a load.

No real progress....money tight.
But i did buy a nice 9x6 used stainless weedless wheel for $40
Guy was looking for an electric dryer as a trade on letgo.....i bought a $30 dryer and delivered it to swap for the wheel.
Still need a new shaft and a lower bearing, along with a universal and a stator.
I can run without stator for awhile if needed.
Slowly working on those items.

Its the old ugly mudboat i gave to my brother a few years ago.
Gonna be a decent solo rig,has a solid bottom on it with a 15 in transom.
By next weekend i should have the holes welded up.
Gotta find some cash to get the rest of the needed parts.

Looks like i have a good bit of modding to do.
Motor needs to be shimmed up to get correct shaft height, chop shaft to correct length aswell.gonna build the lower bearing and lengthen the lower end.....probally redo the cav plate.
Who ever build this frame done alot planning, balance is perfect.about 1 lb of pressure needed to raise her up.
My shaft tube was also bent....used the old swing it agaist a tree method to straighten up a bit.
I make my own exhaust or modify a stainless one for a v twin briggs.
Myffler for the eh65 suby is pretty pricy.
The universal i have is big and heavy duty, may buy a backwater uni

The mud skipper lower is pretty good quality, pictured next to a still usable stcok go devil lower bushing.
Ill chop da skipper in half, save the other half for when she wears.
Gott turn od down alittle to fit in my ss extension tube.
Mud skipper bushing specs
1 1/8 od x 6 length x 3/4 id

Id is a lil sloppy on the 3/4 shaft, same amount of play as go devil.
So i may leave the bushing the full length.

Gettin there
Still need exhaust

This is what im thinking for the lower.
Quick way would be to run the original bushing and cut shaft 5-6 in shorter and trim skeg.
But i like the 74 in length.
So im going to install a length of ss tubing with 1 1/16 id onto the original 7/8 id tube, then remove cav plate and skeg....somehow aquire some 1/8 ss plate and remake a better skeg and cav plate.monday im bringing my lower bushing to work and shave 1/16 th off the od to allow it to fit inside the new lower tube.
Sounds easy n sinple anyway.

I have other options aswell,i dont like the eriginal small diameter tube size,i do have plenty 1 1/16 id ss tube that i could use to replace it,but i think this method ive chosen will be just fine.
I plan on locking the mud skipper lower on with allen screws, drilling greese pilot holes.

And the exhaust....i have 2 motorcycle mufflers i may run along side the shaft tube......if they fit.
Nothing fancy for a frankenstein build.
Look at that beefy universal.....its a monster thats rated to handle 1000 flbs and 5k rpm.

Decided to chop da foot off....lol
Take advantage of the 74 in shaft and rebuild the lower.
I didnt like the ugly cav plate or its design.
My new stainless tube fit over the old tube perfectly.
Gonna shave the lower bushing to fit inside the new tube.
I dont have stainless plate, but i do have 3/16 steel plate.
Im trying to watch the weight to keep balance the same.
If needed ill move pivot back an inch to change the balance

Thanx
Sweat fitted the bushing in da tube, taped 4-1/4x24 set screws and a 45 zerk.
I guess next is cav plate and skeg.....then exhaust and throttle.....test run.

Im alittle nervous about the cav plate angle,if i get wrong gonna need alot of bending to ride properly.
I may go copy a go devil angle.

AS for your exhaust setup since you want cheap and its a Frankenstein build could weld on a threaded coupling to each side and screw in some $7 Arnold mufflers.

$90 shipped is hard to beat.
