35 swomp mods
anybody ever modded a 35 swomp longtail??? Going to buy either the 35 or the 37 this summer. if modding helps them out id go carb model because I could do a lot of the work myself. If moding a longtail is not a good idea id probably go 37. fyi I will be putting it on a 16x50 hunt deck custom boat that we are about to start building as well. ive got all material figured so that the hull will be just under 500lbs. will be a true flat bottom and round sided very similar to a gator trax. thanks Bobby

Re: 35 swomp mods
Short answer , yes , they have been modded. It depends on how much you want to spend to increase your load toteing capabilities or your speed . Keep in mind these are not geared so you will eventually hit a wall that you can't increase pass. H Finn

Re: 35 swomp mods
My vote would be to go EFI, mainly from that wall/plateau of diminishing returns Huck stated. From both the positive reviews on the EFI on both surface drives and longtail motors, and my own very positive experience with the SS 26.5 EFI Backwater on my 1648, I think the extra $500 or so would be better spent up front on the EFI motor over the mods and that cost on the 35. My previous carb 27 MB lontail was exactly 2 mph less than my present 26.5, and there were issues with gas and gumming. It may not be an equal comparison with the 35/37, but I think reveals or hints at the slight advantage of the EFI.

Re: 35 swomp mods
Glade nailed it.
You'll get much better return and reliability from your investment by getting the EFI right off the bat.

Re: 35 swomp mods
I had a 35 SWOMP and jumped to the 37. I never modified the 35 but there is a marked difference in performance between the two in stock form. Also the consistent idling and easy starts of the 37 are super nice.

Re: 35 swomp mods
Not to digress too much, but having once mused about purchasing the MB Super-longtail 35, which has a clutch/neutral/gear reduction, wonder if anyone ever modded that motor? Seems like that and the GD older crawdad? gear reduction small HP motor might be the best candidates for modding in the longtail world.

Re: 35 swomp mods
I'm assuming that's a .100 thick hull being a WE, So now a .100" 16'x48" hull with stuff removed is "not light??" Is that a 648LDV hull?
-do explain....
Even if it was a very well braced .125" hull, that still wouldn't classify as heavy by any stretch. That's a small boat any way you slice it up.

Re: 35 swomp mods
People have different definitions I suppose. It's not a soda can but it's by no means heavy in my opinion. I had a 1548 .100 boat myself.

I don't know what part of the country you're in, but I'm in MN and every season I wish I had an 37 EFI instead of the 35 I currently have when I'm choking the thing at 4:30 in the morning and it's 15 degrees out. I don't care about speed (although the extra gains would be a nice bonus too).

I wish cold weather were a problem I'm in central florida. worst we get is maybe in the 30's and that's once or twice a season lol ive talked to a couple people now and I'm pretty certain I'm going to go with a the efi mainly for throttle response.

Re: 35 swomp mods
Delta performance has a great recipe for the 37. Efi ' s , I have driven there modded packages in person . They can create a monster should you want it. Something to keep in mind. Just because it's efi , it can still be greatly upgraded . Best of luck.
