Re: Sps guys check this kit out
Na, I'll keep my SPS longtail. Give me a simpler design with less transmission losses and fewer moving parts: too complicated of a design for my tastes. That said most people would probably buy the surface drive simply because it makes more sense inside their brains.
Thai longtails are not an American way of thinking. No matter how you put it, Americans don't want a simple, cost-effective solutions. Part of that is healthy: it'd take a long time to get to the Moon on a tricycle, but I don't need a rocket to get to my favorite bluegill hole either.
It's all personal preference. For instance I don't use rod and reel for fishing. I handline only. Why? Simpler, less complicated design, more hands on, and I can feel every move the fish makes making for instantaneous drag adjustments. There isn't a man made drag system or rod design devised than can match the sensitivity God gave my hands.
I have a minimalist philosophy: strip away everything you don't need, build on simple cost-effective solutions. With fishing I'm left with a line, hook and bait. With outboard motors the Thai longtails fit the bill. With lures fly tying fits that best. With baits worms and maggots. I have an underlying, overarching, all-encompassing philosophy that guides my gear selection processes, and the Mud Skipper Surface Drive doesn't fit that philosophy. Your philosophy may be different, and that's fine.
