35hp backwater
What opinions on performance? And which boat to go with. Had a 1544 with a 27hp longtail and bought a 23 hp copperhead and hate it.... the copperhead doesn't get anywhere my longtail would take me.... I'm torn between a 35 GTR or a 35 LT with a 1748 size boat What are your guys opinion?

Re: 35hp backwater
If you liked your 27 Lt, a 35 will be better...but if you are carrying big # and going long distances, the SD 35 is better, all depends where you run

Re: 35hp backwater
On Memorial day I only got 100 yards into the glades and then bottomed out- very little water. Last week, after all the rain, the FWC announced closures to the WMA's down here because of high water! I see the lake is back over 12' and that is good! Been running LT's since 1986, and I love my BW 26.5 EFI LT! The O's bottom is hard sand/marl in most places and you are better off with an LT- you will bottom out quicker with an LT than a SD- the SD will go in farther but then you will be bad azz stuck and good luck with that and your prop is probably history. I almost bought a copperhead 23 but it was more $ than my BW, and I am stubborn after 31 years, and the LT just plain works...now if I was carrying three hunters and gear and making longer runs, a big block SD would be just fine.

Yeah man makes sense. Guess you can't have everything appreciate the input! Maybe I'll see you around the glades!

Re: 35hp backwater
I had the 35 and really liked it. I eventually bumped up to the 37 and IMO the benefits of EFI were unbelievable. Super easy starting, extremely smooth idle and acceleration, etc. Regardless of if you go 35 or 37, the big block SWOMP motors from Backwater are incredible.
Were you unhappy with the Copperhead specifically or just the surface drive platform in general? If you didn't like the capabilities of the surface drive as opposed to a long tail, you have have already answered your GTR vs Backwater question. Try to get some stick time with each motor and go from there! Best of luck on your decision.

Re: 35hp backwater
Frank Water level got real low and the copperhead will rip throw it but you can't stop. I did get out but almost an hour later. My longtail days I never had that problem. Went frogging and we couldnh even get close to them due to the fact that we had to keep a fast speed. A guy with a gatortail had a rough time and he got through. Make u think if 8k is really worth the investment on a GTR. Honestly I'm anxious for the season when the Water is higher. Next season I'm buying a 1748 crawdad from weldbilt. Gonna keep my copperhead and if it performs for what I need then fine if not the backwater will be my next purchase.

Re: 35hp backwater
I have a 35 backwater and love it!!! I used to run an outboard jet and don't see myself going back. Plenty of power with the 35. I have it on an Alweld 1752 and it carries a load very well with the 9x8 prop running 23 solo with fishing load and a plywood floor. I've had 10 people in it and still went up river at 12-13 mph...

Re: 35hp backwater
10 people in a 1752 isn't probably the best idea
