I'm thinking about buying a long tail I have found a Mud Buddy Super Long Tail at a good price. The question is are they any good very little reviews on them or should I just buy a backwater 35 long tail. Boat is a 18' x 48" flatbottom.

A couple of persons here own the SLT and love them...I agree those two choices are the best. Let me add a third: the BW lite 35/37 models. I would definitely contact BW and see about their availability, the reviews thus far are very positive. I would add that the 37 EFI is also right up there for contention. My 26.5 EFI thus far has been great, none of the carb problems I faced almost yearly with my previous motors, despite using seafoam and fresh gas. Your 1848 flat is definitely a great hull for any of those motors! Let us know how it goes!

I know a couple people who have the SLT and absolutely love them. The clutch feature is great and both of them have close to 600 hours on them. I just set the valve lash on the 589 hour SLT. He never had it done before. It's used for bow fishing and trapping and he told me he has never had any trouble with it.

I was just doing some searches on this site. There are a number of positive reviews but no specific review giving rpms, mph, etc. I sure wish someone would chime in on the SLT, which I believe comes only in the 35 HP. This might be helpful to do a side by side comparison of the BW big blocks. To date, I have not heard of any clutch/belt failures, which often occurs with the surface drives. :geek:

Sorry, did not mention that MB also offers the 37 EFI SLT! At 5800$, this is a bit more than the 4950$ BW 37 EFI...I wonder at what price BW will sell the "lite" 35 and 37 motors?

The motor I worked on is mounted to a 1754 G3 mod vee and loaded with traps and gear the guy said he runs about 22-25 mph depending on conditions. This mph was done with a hand held gps he uses to mark all his trap locations. I'm impressed with them and have been since I saw my first one in 2012.

I don't know anyone close who has a bw though. I just thought the numbers on the slt were pretty impressive. If I was looking to go back to a lt i'd buy the slt.
