modifing a 35 swomp
I'm running an 1856 weldbilt with a 1000# load and can only get 3950 rpm max. When I run a lighter load I can get 4150- 4200. Any mods that would help with the heavy load?

It's a 35 Briggs. The same mods we talk about for the surface drives work for that one too, since it's the same engine.

Re: modifing a 35 swomp
IMO heads carb and exhaust will show lots of improvement. If its an EFI, Heads and exhaust, get it "dialed in". More in and out, letting the motor "breathe".
I did a 2011 GTR(heads carb exhaust) went from 25 with 2 to 30+ with 2--Motor turned the same prop to higher rpms. LT should show improvement in rpm increase empty and loaded.

Re: modifing a 35 swomp
Often heard about modding an LT. Would that mean the 35 LT could turn a bigger prop? That is the big question mark on LT's, the fact there is no gear reduction...excepting maybe a MB SLT? Would be good to know if anyone has upped the 35/37 SLT? I was driving my 26.5 EFI this past weekend while scouting- stock motor on a 1648 grizzly- and cruising at 21 mph, not too bad, of course just me and no real hunting load. A couple more mph would be nice, but how much $ are we talking? I think I personally would put the money into another hull, a true flat, to get better performance. I actually drive the speed limit on the road, so 20 mph feels good and I enjoy the drive in the marsh as is.

Re: modifing a 35 swomp
Probably no need for a bigger prop, but you can definitely add cup and/or pitch to either dig better or get more speed after mods.

Re: modifing a 35 swomp
I second that, make turning a prop with more cup or more pitch at a higher rpm-increasing speed!

Re: modifing a 35 swomp
Huck, what combo are you driving today? I remember the numbers for your 23 HP LT on that 15' skiff. I am mostly happy with my "compromise" of a 1648 grizzly and 26.5 BW, and as it is usually just me hunting, I don't really need to go bigger, in fact, I might eventually drop down to a 23 HP (either LT or SD Copperhead) and a lighter hull. If I get another lab in a year or two I will still have plenty of space.

Re: modifing a 35 swomp
Ok! My second boat was a 1544 alumaweld square jon all-welded, .090 gauge that really did well with a 25 kohler. I will not go skinnier, my first was a 1436 jon.
