New to the forum... horrible with motors. Just recently picked up a 12ft FL Skiff (fiberglass) with a 16hp GDLT. Was told I would run 16-20mph.. only running 11mph solo and 8.5 load with another hunter. Have a tiny tach on it runs great outta the water turning high rpms like it should.. put it in the water underload and its only turning 2100 rpms full throttle. Already have had the carb, spark plugs, and fuel lines replaced.. very stumped on whats going on.. love the little skiff, not loving going super slow.. any idea? TIA Located in South Florida, mostly hunting the Everglades. |

It sounds like too big a prop or too steeply pitched of a prop to me. But I used to have a 25 Kohler Go Devil longtail that wouldn't run right under load. I never could figure it out, sold it to a mechanic. He found that a stop nut or bolt had vibrated loose and when I pressed the lever to wide open throttle it would over travel and activate the choke causing it to bog. |

@aknative I actually have the recommended 9x3 prop on the GD. I'm debating swaping out the motor for a 23 but I'm not good with that kind of stuff lol. Someone said it could be a compression issue, but I'm not sure |

My guess...your speeds are more realistically going to be in the 15-17 mph range. Make sure you have fire on both cylinders. Then, check valve lash. After that, check leak down. |
