Ran the motor today (35HP with pipes and M-Carb) on a 1760 Lowe.
Ran great for an hour, then started hearing a noise. Thought it was the upper seal and then noticed at the dock that the shaft had moved upward about an inch.

The movement also pushed the u-joint up on the engine drive shaft an inch.

Not sure why. Has anyone seen this and what is the fix? Do I need both upper and lower seals and then reset the shaft?

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks, Steve

I don't see how the shaft would move an inch without the prop or prop nut running up against the lower seal retainer. I can believe the joint walking up. This would through the angles off and put it into a major bind. Depending on what actually moved you may be able to move the joint back down into position and lock it in

Thanks Will. The prop nut did move up and is almost touching the lower seal. I'll try to loosen the u-joint and move it back down by hand.

I sent you this question at your shop also. Let me know what you think when you read my other question.
