I have a 1650 custom welded Jon boat. It's true flat bottom and has a 14" hunt deck. My question is should i mount a longtail at the normal transom location or out on the hunt deck? Hunt deck is braced for a transom just need to weld a mounting block on top of hunt deck. Also if I theoretically went with a backwaters LT would having the hunt deck make a difference in which length longtail to get?

That boat looks to have little to no rake. Seems like it will be tough to plane with a MM. I would get as much weight as far back as possible.

$0.02

Good luck

Aulee, did you call Backwater yet? I would send them pics, dimensions, etc. to help in deciding on the motor, they have a new 37/40 EFI lite frame models now (225#), you could probably handle that. Honestly, Jake at BW helped me a lot regarding best mounting type for my hull, and you could get his input. They use a 1752 alweld many times with the big blocks. The only question is the best place to mount the motor. Good luck!
