Post First boat.. Backwater longtail
Finally got my new boat out today. It’s a 1440 jon boat with a 13hp predator motor and backwater longtail. This is my first boat so it’s a learning curve on pretty much everything. But it went pretty smooth today. I have some work I want to do to the boat and trailer.

First will be get new trailer lights and bunks. Then I plan on repainting the boat once we get some nicer weather. I cant wait to get out this fall for duck hunting in this rig. IMG_4224.jpg

That’s awesome bro, congrats on your first boat! My first boat was also a 1440 that I really enjoyed

Congrats! Mine was a 1436 with an 18 hp GD longtsil?..do not skimp on safety gear, get plenty of practice, don't exceed weight, careful on those turns, wear your kill switch, have fun!

Have any of you cut into the seats on a jon boat and removed the foam? Im thinking about doing it to the middle bench for added storage space.

Helped a friend remove his and I removed foam from rear pod to use as storage and place electronic panel. On both we tried to make up for flotation loss by adding closed cell foam between the floor ribs and under aluminum floor we installed. Alum won't rot like wood does and is actually lighter. We place hydroturf over the aluminum. Tempress makes some good slam hatches and liners, used one on my rear pod for easy access to storage.

Another suggestion, since you mentioned new trailer bunks, is to add gatorglide, steelflex or similar coating to the bottom. If you add slick pads on the bunks or put slick coating on them, loading/unloading boat from trailer will become real easy- except you have to be careful!
Also suggest LED trailer lights and running lights are a good upgrade.

Quick little update since I’m looking back on the season already being that most of the water here is locked up with ice. I ended up finding a newer trailer I trade a guy and tossed in some cash. Got the boat painted and it looks like a completely different rig. I’m loving the setup though. It got me into places this year i wouldn’t have thought possible before. I cant wait for spring time to explore some more new areas.

I like it a lot bro. If you ever upgrade to a big surface drive, don’t sell your current rig. Once I got my big gatortial rig, I sold my little
Longtail, because I thought I wouldn’t use it. Now, I wish I hadn’t for certain spots and areas, but alas, she is gone lol
