 Re: Reverse Wars!!!
The times that I have been stuck NO reverse would have been able to get me out.
Instant or FPR its all about what you need out of a motor. FPR is a great option but so is instant. For my needs instant was the way to go.

 Re: Reverse Wars!!!
From what I have seen in all the pics posted on this site there seems to be alot of prodrives stuck. So is the reverse option only good for backing out of a place that you cannot turn around in?
Help me out here I'm trying to figure out what motor to buy and with all the hoses and that pump it just looks like alot to deal with. When you add all the options on the pd up I can get one of the other brands with trim standard and it seems that they can dig down alot further than the pd which from what I see is the reason they get stuck easy.

 Re: Reverse Wars!!!
Oh I misread what you posted, I thought you said there was a video.
When I hook to someone its to help them out not to see what my motor can do because I know what they all can and cannot do.
you should have titled this the dead horse thread because its been beat to death for several years now.

 Re: Reverse Wars!!!
Reverse can come in handy if ya lookin to buy a truck. My brother-in-law's dad had to drive in reverse from Weeks Island to Baldwin backwards when his forward gears went out one time. I bet he was glad he got the reverse option then.

 Re: Reverse Wars!!!
i'm pretty new here and always get a kick out of the watching ya'll spew on about the reverse wars. When i was looking at motors, it was very clear to me that both PD and GT had good designs. Its all in what you use it for. Ya know, benefits and drawbacks, each of them have them. Instant reverse vs FPR is apples and oranges. I went with GTR because i wanted instant reverse to aid in everyday driving of the boat. I use it everytime i'm in the boat and love it. That being said, ive been in some situations where FPR would have worked better even though my GTR did what I needed it to do. All i know for sure is, I would never own a mudmotor without some brand of reverse!

 Re: Reverse Wars!!!
As everyone here probably knows already, it all depends on the terrain you run. Where Dogwalker runs in the marsh, the instant reverse is a better feature. I have a lease in the same area and have probably used my FPR once just because I was lazy, not because I was stuck. My lease partners have a Gatortail and use their reverse all the time (but only because it makes things easier, not to get out of a situation). In soft mud, I would say it is the best option.
When I first bought my Prodrive, I was running in a freshwater area with thick mats of hyacinth/hydrilla. Usually the inboard mudboats would have to run through a trail once or twice before before the longtail people could pass. My prodrive made running through those mats MUCH easier due to the weighted back design. It also allowed me to cut trails if they had not been run yet. I would get up a head of steam and run until the mats stopped me because I was on top of them. Then I could reverse out again. After a few times, the trail was cut enough to run. The PD was superior in this area.
The funny thing is that in South LA these two types of areas can be very close together. So what might be right for one guy at the launch might not be right for the guy launching next to him. Both fine motors and fine features that work great everywhere but excel in different situations.
