 all terrin tires for 4x4
So I'm looking for some news A/T tires for my Tundra. Thinking about a heavier ply tire b/c of the jobsites I go on. Looking at Toyo Open country A/T. Any thoughts on them or some other good A/T tires? Want a good traction for mud but not too heavy like a mud tire, just want to be able to sling a little bit of mud if needed.

Re: all terrin tires for 4x4
I have the Toyo Open Country MT on my truck and I love em. This is the 2nd set.
I know some people with the ATs and they love em. The Open Country is really a great tire IMHO

Re: all terrin tires for 4x4
This is a good 10ply tire that will last a long time on a 1/2ton truck.I have them on my Z71 and have over 40,000 miles and still have more than half tread on them. These are hard miles of 90mph trips everywhere i go and drunk nights of power braking and Jackrabbit starts and stops. http://www.bridgestonetire.com/tiresele ... uctID=2012

Goodyear Wrangler MTR's. Had several sets of these on previous trucks and loved them.

Re: all terrin tires for 4x4
I've had 2 sets of BFG All Terrains. They last forever and are very tough. I had hit curbs at 30 mph where the tires should have busted but came out unscathed. They are not a mud tire but do ok in the mud and have great traction on the road.
I am about to get a new set of tires and am deciding between the BFG and the Goodyear Duratracs. The Duratracs just came out a few months ago and look like a really good tire. They have a more aggresive tread almost like a mud tire but they have the slits (siphoning?) in the tread for wet conditions unlike a traditional mud tire.

Re: all terrin tires for 4x4
I have a f150 crew and got 17k out or nito terra grapplers and they suck off road. i had a set of bfg that got 30k and still sucked off road.
i am on my second set of buckshots and i got just over 70k out of my first set before i got new one before hunting season stated..... the price for a set of 305 75 17 in gilmer tx with free rotate and balances was 813 last november.
might not be a allteran, but on a lighter truck i recn you could get 80k out of them. also know you can get 15k out of them on a 14k lb 1 ton truck.

I had 70k on my open country on my z71. Best tire for the money in my opinion. Definitally going back to them when my maxxis ware out.

Re: all terrin tires for 4x4
I'm not looking to go off-road any I just need to sling some mud to go a few places when I bring my boat to certain areas. I do most of my driving on the road in the city. Some of these jobsites are muddy as hell too and I need to be able to get some traction out of it at times. I got 47,700 miles on my stock BFG rugged trails but in wet grass these things dont even bite; you gotta floor it to go anywhere.

Re: all terrin tires for 4x4
I guess you dont really want a 10 ply on a Tundra an 8 ply should be plenty heavy since your not towing 12k lbs. I put alot of miles on trucks and normally run mud tires. I have had good luck if I keep them rotated/balanced/ and the truck in alignment.
265 Maxxis Buckshots- 40K on a tacoma and sold with 50% tread remaining. 265 Maxxis Buckshots- 50K on F150. 265 BFG AT/KO- 75k+ miles and still going on an F150. 285 BFG MT/KM- 55k miles on crew cab powerstroke 285 Firestone Destination MT- 50k and still going on crew cab power stroke. These tires will get at least 60k maybe more. I've been impressed with em'
When they are gone, I will probably go back to the BFG AT. We run alot of Toyo's at work and I havent been impressed with how they hold up on the many miles of gravel roads on jobsites. The BFG AT's are quiet on the road too. My mud tire rumble is getting a little old trying to do conference calls running 80 down the interstate.

Been running Bridgestone Dueler Revo II on my FX4, great traction in rain and snow, plus they work well enough for the clay logging roads up here. Got 60,000+ out of my first set.

If you are mostly on-road, the BFG AT's are great.

Re: all terrin tires for 4x4
BFG AT are good tires but i didnt care for them off road. I ran a set of pro comp extreme at, similar to the toyo open country. good tire on and off road. I just the cooper sst or stt and they are one of the best AT mud tires in my opinion. Just like you im on the highway alot but still need to sling some mud. the cooper ans pro comps were run on a f250. just like you i looked at them all

I am in the mud on jobs EVERY DAY in my F 350 Powerstroke 4x4 and I run Cooper Discoverer STs and they do great for an all terrain. Toyo Open Countrys worked good on my wifes Tahoe but they aint cuttin it for my daily driving.

Re: all terrin tires for 4x4
cooper st's. they have enough tread to pull pretty good but not enough to make em loud and rough. had a set on my last truck. running stt's now but will be buying a set of st's soon myself. plus they are made in the usa.

Re: all terrin tires for 4x4
Let me re-phrase dat.... I've gotten 60K out of a set when rotated religiously. Haven't been hardly rotating at all on da last few sets & still gettin 45~50K out of 'em. Don't know what it is, but for a mud grip to last dat long on a 3/4 ton diesel.... I'll keep on buyin' em!

Re: all terrin tires for 4x4
The good thing bout the Brutes is them MOFOs are CHEAP compared to the other brands out there. Im going try dem Toyo Open Country Mt's on my HD prolly next week. My buckshots are thin and one I can almost see the air in it.

had a set of goodyear wranglers last me 65k, but rotated every 6k. bfg at lasted longest, on f150. Both are good tires imo.

Re: all terrin tires for 4x4
I got 45 K miles out of a set of BFG TAKO's on my old F 150. I got right at 40 K miles on my Toyo MT and they still look like I got at least half the tread left on my F250 FX4, crew cab diesel for what it's worth to ya. Them BFG tires got hard and the Toyo's have remained a softer tire.
