 Diesel Generator build?
Anyone ever put their own together?
I'm thinking of maybe putting my own together to save a little cash and give me a project. I mean it cant be that hard. Can it? I've googled and googled and searched the net but can't find much useful info.
My engine of choice will be a Kubota D1005 E3 BG as of now. I have not narrowed down my particular Generator end yet, but it will be a 10KW 60Hz single phase end.
I'm not in a real rush to do this, but any info or tips would be appreciated.
Thanks Mike

 Re: Diesel Generator build?
I think we talked last year. I still haven't purchased one yet.
Is there a particular brand of Gen. end you recommend? Is it as easy as buying and engine/generator and putting it together on a skid?
Do i need some type of voltage requlator or something? Or do I just wire it into a main breaker panel where my camp power cord will plug in?
I guess I just need some basics to get me started and i'll figure it out as i go.
Thanks

 Re: Diesel Generator build?
I'd go with northern lights Generator end. It's not normally bolt together, you have to machine flex plates and flywheel and measure for proper thrust on engine. You will also have to build skid and mount radiator. Not saying it can't be done, but I would buy one with a warranty, hook up a battery and fuel and go.

 Re: Diesel Generator build?
I know a very good diesel mechanic that could probably help out with that. I still may buy a new one though that's not out the question yet. It's just hard for me to drop that much cash when I'm getting by with a cheap gas genny.

 Re: Diesel Generator build?
That engine is what they normally use on the 6kw you might have to look at the 2000 series engines for enough power.

 Re: Diesel Generator build?
I just got my hands on a Cat 3304 engine and generator skid with 1500hrs for scrap price...., it's setup to run on pipeline natural gas but I'm going to convert it to propane. It's easy to do and I work on those engines for a living, super simple, cleaner to work on than a diesel too. It's 95hp, 55kw and 480v, I'll have to run a transformer but this should provide all the standby power I could ever need...
