Post Reading list
Anyone have any good non-fiction books they care to share with hunting, fishing, adventure or outdoor themes, or regional stuff?
A few of my favorites are;
More stories of the old duck hunters http://www.amazon.com/dp/1572230037/?ta ... d5aabfhe_e

http://www.amazon.com/The-Old-Man-Rober ... 080502669X

Spirit of st Louis- by Charles Lindbergh is long but one of the best and most exciting reads Ive ever had. The first chapter is him bailing out of an open cockpit mail plane in the dark and trying to figure out where he is! It's also crazy to read about a mature guy in his twenties working his ass off and having a custom plane built to fly the Atlantic, and that it was so uncertain that he'd make it or even survive.

The old jack o'conner books and most of Theodore Roosevelt's books have some great hunting adventures, as well as a lot historical information. And every library has them.

These are a hoot and great reads if you beer plan on spending time in Alaska. http://www.amazon.com/Oh-Were-Gonna-Die ... 1578333407

Another good one if you're into hunting brown bears. http://www.amazon.com/Pinnell-Talifson- ... 0937708038. I had an old friend who hunted with these guys, and was abled to tell his side of hunting with them, which made it even more interesting.

Like everyone who's ever read Huckleberry Finn, it's been my dream since I was ten years old to run down the entire Mississippi, but after reading canoeing with the Cree, I'd like to do this trip from Minneapolis up the Minnesota river with a portage to lake traverse to the red river and to Hudson's bay with some small boats and long tails with my boys when they get a little older. I'd also recommend anyone in their late teens or early twenties do these trips before you are busy with a career or family, as it gets tough to be away that long.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

"Spring Creek Chronicles" is a pretty good read about huntin' and fishin' the gulf coast. Set in short story form if I remember right. Writ by a fella named Leo Lovell who's family are old Florida commercial fisherman. There is another good one about an old Florida family from around the Tampa area that was genuinely hilarious for true outdoorsmen. Can't recall it, anybody wanna help? There was a story in it about one of em hooking a big tarpon and the drunken brother shot the hell out of it with a .30-.30.....

The Clearing by Tim Gautreux is a good fictional historical book.. I know you said non fiction but this one is pretty good, set in early 1900s Louisiana lumber mill/camp.
Another one is Catahoula Lake Chronicles: A View From Indian Bluff by Jack Willis, another historical book. Catahoula lake is pretty well known in La and is huge to waterfowlers now and back then too
