 Need help on boat selection!
Hey guys new to the forum, well I have a 4500 mud buddy HD and really need to get a different boat. I really like the G3 gator tough 1860 however I know that mud motors are supposed to have complete flat bottom boats. Just having a hard time paying the money for a flat bottom. They are pretty proud of them! Any suggestions or comments on brands to look into would be greatly appreciated.

Buy a true mud hull and be done with it. You will buy the Cheaper boat now, and end up spending even more money on another boat that will be a better fit.

Keep an eye out for a good deal on a true mud hull.
Buy once, cry once.

Re: Need help on boat selection!
Does it come down to a strength difference or more of just the fact that it is flat and makes mud and shallows easier?

And has anyone used an edge duck boat? They seem fairly nice with a good price tag

Re: Need help on boat selection!
*facepalm* This has been beat to death on this site, but here goes: Standard jon boat hulls typically have bracing running across the boat, and are usually made from thinner aluminum than actual mid hulls. It causes hooking when impacting stumps, logs, and repeated runs over shallow bottoms. This creates a performance issue that defeats the purpose of having a shallow water rig. You'll spend money trying to fix it, or replacing it, and it won't be worth nearly as much when you try to sell it. Mud hulls have bracing running the length of the boat, and are made from thicker aluminum, and don't suffer the same issues as bad. There are times when they'll do everything you ask and perform fine, but those situations aren't nearly as common as those where they don't hold up and need to be replaced. Save now, wait a while longer, and get what you need, or buy now and wish later.

Starting its seventh season with this hull, still straight and true.

Re: Need help on boat selection!
Thank you MitchV, so as long as I have longitudal bracing as well as say .100 aluminum I should be good, pretty much coming down to what I like and suits my needs
