 Re: Which one.............
VENICE – Deputies in Plaquemines Parish rescued three hunters from Garyville after their boats began taking water and sank Sunday.
Deputies Chad LaFrance and Aubrey Looney with the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office Marine Division rescued the three friends aged 22, 24 and 27 from the Mississippi River near Pilottown.
The hunters told first responders that they were on a weekend duck hunting trip in lower Plaquemines Parish when their two Gator Tail boats began to flood with water.
Deputies said at the time of the rescue mission, waves in the river reached two feet high and wind speeds were nearly 30 mph.
The Marine Division was able to rescue the stranded boaters using the PPSO’s Safe Boat and return them to land.

 Re: Which one.............
With the ever decreasing IQ of the average new duck hunter, and the never slowing influx of new hunters, it won't be long before they're pulling bodies out the river on the regular down there.

It says the guys are from Garyville but I've never seen either one of those boats and I'm around that area pretty often.

Here is a Pro Drive boat that my brother called in on Sunday, located at Baptiste. Anybody know the story on this one?

 Re: Which one.............
No kidding. Back when my dad was younger he had a 14 ft jon boat in a boat slip in pas christian, ms. He glued two liter bottle all the way around it so it would float so he could get it pulled back in by the recovery tug when he flipped it. I asked him how many times something like that happened for him to come up with a redneck idea like that. His reply was him and the coast guard captain were on a first name basis.
It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

 Re: Which one.............
Dang it that would be horrible. Sure hope the pup made it okay and thankful nobody died.
If it'd been January or in the middle of the night I believe this story would have had a whole different ending.
That right there would make me think twice about running that river in an 18' mud boat. I've been puckered up in a 24' on that stretch of river before.

 Re: Which one.............
I've almost lost an airboat on 2 different occasions crossing that river. I've never sank one but came pretty close.
Things I've learned in my experiences running small boats down there is to have an escort with a bigger boat for crossing. Not that it'll help your boat but at least there will be someone there to pull you out the water.
Also, tie a crab pot buoy with 150' of rope to your back handle. Place it in the bilge, That way when it sinks you can keep track of where the current takes it. With luck you may be able to salvage it.
Above all though be patience in crossing and never cross in bad fog without radar(never trust gps by itself).

 Re: Which one.............
I've had a few "oh shit" moments in my buddies 1848 with 18" sides. My boat is 1860 with 24" sides and the only thing I would change would be making it a 2060. Ive been more sketched out in that 1848 in 25 to 30 mph wind than I was in mine during a 40 mph wind. This thread is a good reminder of why I'll always have a good sized boat. I'll sacrifice the performance for safety every day of the week.

Going 2 mph slower in a Pro-Drive SBX down there in that river wouldnt be such a bad idea.
