Those knock off sxs's fall apart quick, save your money and go with a good brand. Honda, canam, yamaha, or polaris

I can tell you this.....if you hunt a lot of rice fields like we do, best to just set your mind on a Honda (or any other that doesn't use a belt to propel). I've seen a lot of belt drive utv's crap their pants in a flooded field because the belt got wet.

Snorkels would fix any of the wet belt issues. Not like you can go much deeper into the water with a stock air intake

I have a Kubota 1140 machine. It's diesel, tough, no ground clearance, heavy and will get stuck real quick. If you ride in deep mud I would stay away from the Kubota.

If it's mid chin deep you ain't taking a Honda in it either? There's nothing wrong with a belt driven 4wheleer/sxs is all I'm saying. They are capable of much more then a Honda. Don't let a belt deter you.

If it's chin deep water take a damn boat... I'll never understand spending what those things cost and then Afro rigging them so you can sink the SOB.

It's all relevant a lot of people don't see why we spend what we spend to kill ducks. Buy mudmotors when we can have 10x the HP with an outboard. Buy expensive coolers to hold our beer etc. Different strokes for different folks.

Mid shin def makes more sense lol. You definitely don't need snorkels. Mid shin deep would barely get the middle of my rims wet on my Polaris ranger. To OP you can't go wrong with any of the name brands. But stay away from the knock offs point blank.

I can't remember the name maybe a Big Bear? Was belt driven. It was a long time ago, a bunch of us went ride and someone had one. Had to keep standing it on its front end to dump water out, so it could go..lol

My wife wants a Kubota rtv to go along with our tractor. I want a Honda Pioneer.
In regards to the Kubota diesel how does the diesel perform in regards to longevity and power?

The damn accessories from Honda are expensive. To add a top, windshield and winch was about $2000. I ordered aftermarket stuff for under $1000.

BRJosh thanks for the reply. I am looking at a couple used rtv's right now and they are diesel. My wife and I both drive diesel trucks. I am looking for a side x side for our small farm and for a new business venture I'm about to get into. It will not be for mud busting rather used to haul a person around to look at property. I have a 2014 Polaris 850xpho that has almost no hours or miles and considering selling/trading it for a side by side. I have been in and around the Rangers hunting and looking at property for years. Speed is not a issue for my wife however I would like to be able to get on down the road when need to.
I have a app on my phone for the Kubota rtv for craigslist and it sounds off all day with new postings. I don't really need a new rig just a rig that has not been sunk or ran to death. I figured it I got a diesel I would be more likely to get a rig that was used on flat ground. Any thoughts?

The Kubota is a good work machine, for riding and enjoyment I would get something else.

Net I bought mine new here in SC. I use it on my farm up in the Virginia highlands. Most people that buy the Kubota RTVs get them for work. I've used mine for ridge riding up high. You can run it just like a diesel truck...just keep your foot into it. Like I said in my earlier post, I have a diesel Ranger but it's more of a play toy compared to the Kubota. The Kubota has hydraulic valves out the back for different applications. I run mine in snow 3 feet deep. Secret is to be going downhill and don't let up. The hydraulic transmission is the same as the hydrostat on a tractor. Let off the gas and it slows. Water isn't a problem.
I'd be careful not to find one used being sold from a construction company or a rental place.
Basically, I have no complaints for my uses.

I have my dad's Kubota RTV 900 4X4 diesel for sale . It has 350 hours and is in real good shape. I just serviced it.

We have a Mule and a Yamaha "Knock off" . It's aColeman with a Yamaha power plant. I was extremely apprehensive when it was purchased but I have to say it has held up remarkably well. It's used on a farm so it has been put through the ringer. The Kawasaki is fine , just slow .

A buddy of mine recently bought a new one. I went with him when he test drove the Yamaha Rhino, Polaris Ranger, and Honda Pioneer - one after the other at the same dealership. He was replacing a Ranger after upgrading from a Viking.

I thought he would buy another Yamaha, but they still haven't fixed the engine/exhaust noise issue - they're loud and he wanted something relatively quiet where you can carry on a conversation when running it. Drove the Honda and it had some nice options - single track rear only, locked rear diff, 4x4 and AWD (I think), power steering, etc, but it had some LOUD drivetrain/gear noise. Drove the new Ranger - smooth, quiet, and powerful - he bought it.

I will try to remember to respond to this when I'm setting at a desktop. Tagged for now.

I put the Honda through some ruff shit and like it so far. My neighbor has a 2004 Ranger 570 and I like the Honda much beter. And I drove his a bunch.

I was recently in the market for one myself because I thought I would use it enough working around the property to justify it. My cousin has over 900 acres strictly for duck hunting that he takes his timber clients on. He plants and floods the ponds. Everyday during duck season, his SxS's get used hauling gear and as many people that will fit including a trailer for people to ride on. After speaking with him and knowing he has had Yamaha Rhinos, Polaris Rangers, both gas and electric and a Honda Big Red and one of his employees ran a Honda Pioneer 700 all last year. I had it narrowed down to Honda as #1 and Polaris as #2, I didn't like the new Yamaha's. I test drove the Honda and liked everything about it but was waiting for the 1000 to come out. I really didn't want a Polaris because he had his worked on a lot. All kinds of little issues but he said he kept the Polaris around because his local dealer was close and easy to work with. The Honda would outwork the Polaris all day as far as pulling. So, I went to test drive a Polaris and the dealer asked me if I had looked at the new Kawasaki Mule PRO. I said no, we walked over to one, after a short time walking around it, test driving it and hearing they had a 3 year warranty, it was a no brainer. Now it was between Honda 1000 and Kawasaki Pro. I wasn't going to pull the trigger until I drove a Honda 1000 though. In the meantime, this was right at teh beginning of duck season and I was talking to my cousin about the Kawi Pro, he didn't know it was out there. He went to look at one and bought one. It has surpassed everything he has had and he loves it. Plenty of room, power steering, and strong. We had 6 grown men in the Pro with 5 more on a trailer behind it plus gear and it powered through all the muck and hills on the property to get to the blinds. I was impressed. I still havent drove a 1000 yet because they sell as fast as they get them in. Dealer told me he had a wait list.

Now, with all that said, I have personally talked me out of a SxS all together after working on my friends 1983 Jeep Scrambler. It is only 4" wider than the average SxS mainly due to the tires and can go everywhere I would go in a SxS plus it's street legal. I would fine an old jeep scrambler for half the price of a new SxS and end up with a street legal machine that can also fit in tight places. Only thing a SxS has to its advantage is weight but they're getting big enough now that they're not far from it. That Scrambler will float right over a boggy ass field with no problem.

In short my #1 pick for a SxS today would be a Kawasaki Pro Mule hands down for work and play and best warranty.
#2 Honda 1000 which the back seats in the bed is good for play but not for work and it has solid gears.
