As a fellow outdoorsman, I am asking you kindly to veto the mud boat ordinance. This ordinance will directly harm our culture in Southern Louisiana. The marshes and swamps have been my families home and way of life for many generations. We use our mud boats respectfully and as a way to put food on the table. I have also used these mud boats to take my kids out on the water. We frog, duck hunt and fish all year long. You are asking me to no longer takes my kids out in the swamp. I have owned some form of a mud boat for the last 25 years. It has not and will not damage our wetlands. Furthermore, it does not damage the waters as bad as the amount Mercury put in the water by several outboard motors. Do not kill our way of life. I would also ask you to consider the political ramifications of your actions. This will be your last term in any political office if this ordinance is not vetoed by you. You are preventing your own community from enjoying the very swamps and marshes we were all raised on. The damage to your career will he unrepairable. Please reconsider and veto this ordinance. Veto it for your community and for your career.

Well I don't feel like and refuse to not be allowed to use a mud boat because of a few bad eggs and some grumpy old men that don't like them. This is no difference than them idiot liberals trying to band guns. I been using a mud boat my entire life. My best fishing spots can only be reached with a mud boat. Everyone will be crying when mud boats get banned and grass fully takes over the lakes. Then you going to go spray the grass with chemicals. That is just genius I tell you.
We are going to fight this and we will win. Many outboards polute the water with Mercury. Should you go and ban them next?

Atv's give you more accessibility. Ban them..... Enforce the law. You can trespass in any kind of boat. If duck commander goes to some new fancy outboard rig, then that will be the next problem. No hard feelings in my end, and believe me u wasn't taking a personal dig at either of you. Just saying everyone needs to one there eyes and see the bigger picture with this whole debate, or you all will be fighting a loosing battle.

I also agree the real issue does come down to trespassing more then the surface drives themselves, but because of what they can do and where they can go it has made the problem way worse then it ever was. Add to that the convoluted coastal land ownership laws of La, and it's a mess. Enforcing the trespassing laws already in place would be the best start to solve all of this.
But if a private land owner in The parish owns x amount of marsh land and has lakes full of grass, and don't want you running across it clearing his grass out for him, his rights as a land owner should be equally as protected if not more so then anyone's rights as a boat owner/operator. Everyone just needs to quite giving so much high powered ammo to their own demise.

I buy over 1000 lbs of fish and seafood a week from local fisherman. Many of which have over 20K invested in some type of mud boat. I am friends with a few people who use them for charter fishing. Many of these families way to make a living could possibly be tied to this ordinance. There is no way it should be allowed to pass so quickly

so when going to venice. who owns the Mississippi river? anybody can run that river at any time so how would one be trespassing it? once in a wma only thing required is a wma pass and anybody that has it can be there so once again you are not tresspassing

The river is a state claimed water body, not Plaquimines Parish. I would guess, and only guess this is going to affect parish claimed lands, like what has long time been assumed as " public" school board lands and the such. Don't think anyone could ticket you for trespassing on state claimed water bottom in any kind of boat. This is where the whole mess is going to start down there, there's a lot of dispute as to who owns what, with the parish, the state, the Feds, and private individuals.

They should ban the big work boats who pound the shores with 8ft waves all day and night. Someone needs to take pictures of this and show them pencil pushers what that looks like as wave after wave crashes and washes away the land.

I run a duck lease and hold gator tags for property in Delacroix. We currently have a dispute with guys who claim they own a pond that we say we own. The maps are all fucked up. He has one and I have others which are from the parish and the property owner. I'm about to put up a gate to cut his access to the pond from our property. There are fights all over for the same shit. I don't need this poorly worded shot at mudboat owners to help me deal with my problems. Trespassing is already on the books.

The real intent of the law is taking away a tool that allows access to hard to reach spots because of people bitching about trespassing. So again, because of the actions of a few the majority have to suffer. Typical liberal philosophy.

Duckhunting has gained popularity thus there are more novice hunters pissing off old timers. If DC started endorsing a new boat with an outboard then the would sell to the idiots who don't know any better.

With all this bullshit, I still kill ducks and have a blast doing it.

A single dredge boat cutting a location for a keyhole for a drilling rig, causes more damage to the marsh in a few days, than all of the mudmotors ever sold to date have in the last 10 years.. Let that sink in for a moment.

1. Is this ordinance due to coastal erosion? If it is they need to be shot down due to the reasons DG and I stated above.

2. Is it due to trespassing? If it's due to trespassing they need to police it more and make some examples of a few. It'll slow it down eventually.

I have my thoughts that it's about trespassing but will be disquised as erosion being the reason.

The ordinance was created at the request from some yahoo reserve deputy in reference to trespassing issues according to Councilwoman Williams. They add the erosion argument to sway people to their side. It's all bullshit.

I guarantee the reserve deputy ain't enforcing shit. He probably had a lease down in Venice and is dealing with trespassers as we all are. It's a widespread problem because of the maps don't account for land loss and the boundaries are hard to decipher. He obviously has the ear of Williams.

If the object of a new trespass ordinance were to help protect private land ownership and public restoration projects from trespass , it has to include the following:

1. It should be specific to privately owned or public land which is inundated.
2. Other private or public lands would be subject the regular state trespass statute
3. It has to apply to any type of vessels regardless of propulsion type, engine or paddle..
4. The landowner seeking protection from this special ordinance would have to specifically identify his property via gps coordinates published to an official database accessible to the public by link on the parish government website. The land owner can supplement with trespass signs, if he wants, but that should not be a requirement.

Regarding public property to be protected, the ordinance would have to define what is to be protected: public works to protect or restore the coastal environment would be the only type of property I can think of that would be worthy of this special trespass treatment and would have to be specifically defined via GPS coordinates, as well. To designate such an area, would require an ordinance declaring such. The application to these projects of the trespass ordinance should be renewable by the council every year after public hearing.

The ordinance would have to clearly state that its application should in no way impinge on or affect the rights of the public to access and traverse waters whose public access is protected by the U.S. and Louisiana Constitution and other Louisiana Statues or laws.

The trespasser would be presumed to have known the boundaries of the private and public lands by virtue of their having been published on the official parish government website. Lack of such knowledge shall not be a defense.

If you are a private land owner and would like special protection under this statute, but claim you have no access to a computer from which to upload your property's coordinates, then go hide in a corner because this is the 21st century.

The Plaquemines Parish Council is meeting right now in Pointe a la Hache. "Someone" is "expected" to introduce "something" at the meeting in connection with the trespass ordinance. If you are in the neighborhood, drop by and report to us.

Note that whatever is introduced cannot be voted on until published in the official journal and heard at the next meeting.

The meeting started at 1 pm and should have ended by now. Anyone know if anything was introduced?
