Re: What y'all think on shotguns
I am the worlds worst at buying a gun whenever they come out with a new model!I mostly shoot my Xtrema 2 or the Browning Maxus!Guess I will get a new A-5 next year when it comes out

Re: What y'all think on shotguns
I am a Remington fan. Own many starting with my old model-11, 870s, 1100s and a couple 11-87s. Only part I ever broke on the 11-87 was an extractor. After 1000s of rounds that is pretty reliable IMO. I know some folks hate them but I have not had the issues with them. Plus as much as everyone would have you believe the B guns are the chit I have personally seen a few go down so as with MMs anything can break. My last 11-87 is about 9 years old now so they are not the newer Sportsman models which I think alot of the said problems stem from. I see a new Versa Max in my possession soon..........

Re: What y'all think on shotguns
This'll be just like a Ford/Dodge/Chevy, Gatortail/mudbuddy/godevil thread, everyone has THEIR personal opinion on what is better, and I suggest you "test drive" all of them and see which you like best.
I have been beating on a 391 Urika since mid 2000. Hasn't failed me yet, even when the gun was bent where the stock meets the reciever (Gun leaned on gunnel while retrieving crippled duck, and the godevil LT hit a cypress stump). The 390(1)/391 gas system is generally acknowldedged as one of the most reliable to date. Only difference between the 2 is that the 391 exhaust valve and spring are "captured" on the barrel, and there are diagonal cuts on the piston to further aid in self cleaning. Take a trip to a shogtun club, and I bet you see at least a 3-4:1 ratio of those pesky "B" guns to others.
Remington used to make fine shotguns, I have some of the older 1100's, and 870 wingmasters, and the quality and fit/finish is far superior to what they are putting out nowadays. Also I don't personally care for the bolt release on the bottom of the shell lifter. My brother had an older (bought in 1990 or so) 11-87, and it threw the extractor a couple times, once for certain I recall in the duck blind. They are known for this, as well as cracking foreends (only if ya have the wood). He replaced that gun with an AL390 in the mid 90's and has been using it since with no problems that I know of.
I don't have any experience with the Browning silvers, but from what I understand, it is the same mechanically as the Browning "Gold" that was replaced by the Maxus, and the Browning Gold and winchester Sx2 were identical twins as well.

Find a gun that fits you and your wallet and go shoot it. What some love, others hate. I'm a lot like T-Bubba, the hump back is my choice. Got scars on the stock of a Belgium Lt 12 dad gave me for a teething ring.

Re: What y'all think on shotguns
After almost 25 yrs my 870 is still going. Had to put syntheic stocks on it because the wood was splitting. Never failed me but it feels like shouldering a stick of firewood compared to the 390/391.

Re: What y'all think on shotguns
I watched gunbroker for a good while before I found it...and it was like new. I had seen quite a few nice ones but not in a 24. I just kept waiting and finally one showed up and I got it. If you look for one though make sure its the silver mallard and not the walmart version.

Re: What y'all think on shotguns
I am a Beretta guy personally, form automatic's to over and under's. BUT, what I like may not be what fits you. The best advice is to take them to the range if you can, and see how they feel. Which gun gives you the best sight picture? Which gun mounts the easiest from the hip? What gun swings the best? What gun just feels right? You will know when you start shooting clays. You will naturally feel more comfortable shooting one gun over another. Shooing is all about confidence... IMO... Good luck!

Re: What y'all think on shotguns
How many agree w/ my theory.... If you started out w/ a humpback the Benelli is more natural feeling. If you started on a Rem the Beretta is your fit. This has been my experience. Now that most guns come w/ the shems you can make them more comfortable. I will repeat this again for those that missed it. Get what fits! If you can't shoot a $1500 gun it ain't worth 3 dammits for you.

Re: What y'all think on shotguns
Stay away from the newer rem. 1187 in 3.5in, junk! They shed extracters like crazy, I had 2 and they both lost them. Dumped one today(4 extracters in 3 years, the other one 1 in 4 yrs) doesn't matter if they are 3 or 3.5 in shells.

Re: What y'all think on shotguns
Talk to Briley's in Houston. These guys shoot Beretta shotguns. 25,000+ shots on one of their automatics and it has never been cleaned. That's impressive. I shoot a SX3 and really like it. After 2 years, I had a local gunsmith clean it. It never jammed or had any issues, even though he said it looked like a bomb went off inside my gun because it was so dirty. I would suggest a Beretta Extrema 2 or a Winchester SX3...

Re: What y'all think on shotguns
i shot the browning gold 3 1/2 for about 11 years and loved it. It was a gun i could just pick up and kill with easy. It started gibving me trouble about the last two years i hunted with it and i replaced all the springs and its shoots fine now. its retired. I also have a beretta silver mallard and i use it for dove and love the gun never had any problem with it except its a blued barrel and rusts easy. I founf a SBE1 on gun broker two years ago that was almost brand new. only had about a box of shells through it. bought it for 600 camoed it at gander for 250 and i love it. it floats the 4th also and cycles anything i put in it.

Re: What y'all think on shotguns
I used to work at a skeet range and we had most of the brands in over-under and automatic. The Italian guns are very nice, but I just couldn't get past hearing the spring noise in their "inertia driven system". I've never had a gas-operated semi let me down in Browning or Remington. I held a Maxxus last week and am really leaning towards that for my next duck blaster.

Re: What y'all think on shotguns
go with anything inertia driven, that new stoeger 3500 looks like my next truck gun, have a SBE II and before that one a SBE I, great guns, i was raised up on remington 1100 and 1187, great guns, browning Belgium made A-5. the fit and throw for the price is the best advise you can get, some have a hitch, mine is SBE i love them. have an older stoeger with inertia drive, love it too, tough arse shotgun. two seasons without cleaning, rough use.
