I'm driving home about 1/2 mi from the house and come to crossover to get into my neighborhood, now just blocks from the house. Stop and let a lady cross with a dog. Apply the gas & KABOOOM!!!!

I come to instant stop, rear end is locked up!

AAA just took my truck to the dealer. To add insult to injury a guy trying to follow me across unaware that I was trying to get the disabled truck out of the road hits me as I find out I can only go 3' forward until instant stop... He rear ends me backs up flips me off then takes off.

I only got the first 3 of his license plate but have seen his truck in the neighborhood. Man I'm heated. Right before duck season and no truck! Did you know rentals come without a hitch so you can't pull anything?!

My buddy who I'm taking tomorrow luckily has a truck so we are good for tomorrow but DAMN!

the stock differential in GM half tons is garbage. It is made by eaton and it has clutches... they are known to blow up at any givin time.

Had a tow truck pick up the Tahoe today from the dealer. He took it out to the Katy area to Lonestar Ring & Pinion. Actually an old higher class guy that I knew way back 13 years ago.

He already inspected the locker, ordered me new parts & said I can come pick it up Friday!

GM half ton Locker/ posi units are GARBAGE. They all will eventually fail. Towing makes them fail faster or abuse.

The clanking is the locker doing it's thang. When it goes Kaboom, its One HELL of a clank!!!!! That is when you slap a Truetrac and rock on. My 1/2 ton I installed a trutrac and loved the damn thing. It works well!

Marcus, my 10bolt had a GovLoc lock in there.

Post subject:  Re: SOB!!!

WHen they become like a Full detroit, Usually something brke and is causing it to Remain locked. then eventually boom. Run them till they break, and replace them with a better unit. Most likely the Ring and pinion will need replacing too. Heck when Bubba blew his it took out his tranny too from the shock load!

THe zip locker is an Air locker, The yukon Duragrip is their clutch based LSD. You will need an air compressor for the Zip locker or it will be one Expensive ass Open carrier.

Post subject:  Re: SOB!!!

Marcus, what type of break in am I talking here?

I have heard from a few people to either do A or B.

A. 15 mi driving to heat it up. Let completely cool. Do this 3x and then change the oil.

B. Drive 500 miles normal driving, avoiding excessive acceleration etc. then change the oil.

During the break in, can I pull a trailer?

Saturday & Sunday can I haul the GTR down to the coast 60 miles and go hunt?

So I should probably drive to Dallas & back Friday before towing my vehicle...

Looks like I'll have to borrow a car again from someone

Post subject:  Re: SOB!!!

WHen you tow you flex the teeth and will start to breakin a new portion of the ring and pinion so Its best to tow lightly after you do the intial breakin. Honestly I dont see an problem latching onto the boat as it dosent weigh much. Just stop say halfway and let the diff cool for a bit then finish your journey. Vary speeds and keep them under 60 MPH during breakin.
