Looking at getting a new boat built and was going to go with no flotation. Was just wondering if I would have any problems insuring it or registering it since it isn't uscga? I will check with my insurance company but was just wondering if you guys know anything about it. They tell me that it's considered a commercial hull if it doesn't have flotation.

That is correct mine is insured and its custom built so it can be done....I pay 135 for the whole year

also not to mention anything and anybody that is riding in it is covered, also if someone borrows it and sinks or wrecks it, it is covered

I am finally getting around to getting mine insured. Wish I would have done it a few months ago and all the damage done to my trailer would have been covered!!

Anyways, just got off the phone with Boat US. Awesome policy and coverage and very reasonably priced especially with the limits I was offered. My hull is a custom built hull registered as homemade. No floatation. They just want me to send some pics to verify its seaworthy before they start the policy. Covers my guns and hunting equipment too!! I had heard lots of good stuff about them, kicking myself for not calling sooner. Very easy to deal with and they specialize in boats so they can give you lots of good info that I had a hard time getting from my agent that does my auto and home policies.

The boat paid for now, but IMO you got to have the liability insurance.
And $500 is cheaper the my car or truck.

I went State Farm also. Mine's registered as homemade, I've got 15,300 total replacement coverage for about $275 / yr with $500 deductible. After a year of my abuse, my boat's now worth more dead than alive.
