There is a guy here advertising on CL looking for people to join what is basically a prepper community. They are stock pilling food and "assets", and do wilderness and conflict training. |

The preppers who are nuts are the ones who are filmed for that show. Why not just hang a neon sign outside of your house? So in other words, all I have is one expired can of beans, two flat Pib sodas and a super soaker water gun.... Dats my story and I'm sticking to it. In all seriousness, based on what happened in Japan last year, we all probably should have a little on hand just case a disaster huts here. But the preppers stockpiling to that extreme? |

Birdshot will work in close quarters defense...ain't no where for them to go if you catch them in the hallway....7.62 ammo has doubled in price in the last 4 years from about 4bucks to about 8. |

In all seriousness I caught one of the episodes the other night, and at first I thought they were crazy and the whole thing was outlandish, but then I really put some thought into it. 1) As human beings we are truly all half crazy and have crazy and weird things we focus on, for some reason these people are just nervous or paranoid about certain cataclysmic events. 2) After thinking about it some more, as a South LA resident, if I had the stockpile these people have, you don't have to prepare for hurricane season. You are already there and ready to roll. 3) I don't know about all the certain events that make these guys nervous, but the one who is preparing for a total economnic collapse because of hyperinflation seems to be the most plausible or realistic scenario at this moment in time in my opinion. |

no matter what the scenerio be it economic collapse, total social upheval, a natural disaster, whatever. These people will be prepared. The little girl said it best when she defined a "prepper" as someone who prepares for the worst and hopes for the best. The images I get are images like on road warrior.....bands of people who have gotten together for protection in numbers and bands of people out there doing whatever they want to who ever they want. Just my mind at work |

you are rationalizing an irrational situation..... and how is my family any worse off if they are starving and I die trying to get food. We were dead anyway and if I got the food then we are alive....... So what you are saying is that if I had the food and you needed it to survive, you would barter your daughter for food? You would barter your weapons? If you have nothing I need, what would you barter? So I need women to populate my "peoples" I will only trade for young virgins.....would you let your family starve or would you give up your daughter to save your wife and 2 sons? Hell Ive got a buddy that ran a production facility in Brazil. When they had a major layoff, fathers were trying to give him their daughters to keep their jobs. Thats in a third/second world country and thats just to keep a job and money coming in.........prepare for the worst hope for the best. Ive come to terms with what I know I would do to survive and it goes against everything I live for in a civilized society but once your dead there are no redos............ |

wont be many deer left once everyone has killed them to feed their families...hell there wont be squirrels either. you can only hunt if their are animals to hunt.....Ive even come to terms with the fact that you might have to ba a cannibal to survive if the worst happens. |

totally understand......and that is my plan too except to be in west Texas away from the population centers and with Family and friends because their is safety in numbers. but again...what would you be willing to barter....to what extremes would you go? |

human nature dictates if you are in a life and death situation that you will choose life over death at any cost...... I will say though that I would give up my life for my children but that would be the only exception(never been in military). Its nice to sit back and say you would gracefully die with morals and ethics intact but reality, when it hits you, will alter your conclusions. it is human nature after all. animal instict if you want to call it that. I am sorry to be so blunt but look at the native american indians......if they would have helped one another and cooperated with each other instead of raiding, killing, kidnapping and looting each other they could have probably beat the white man. but human nature is what it is and killing each other is part of it. Name one time in history where people werent killing each other over "stuff" (land, animals, women, skins, gold drugs etc.....). |

and im not talking surviving a couple weeks with no electricity after a storm, Im talking about surviving months of chaos due to economic collapse......look at the shit happening in Greece. Look at the way people are behaving. Or syria and the government crack down (yes that could happen here...they are already flying drones) Now multiply that on a scale of the usa and add in all the guns we have and the occupier nutcase types...........well just think about it being really bad. now what would you do to survive? Is it morally and ethically ok to kill someone who is not moral or ethical? |
