Re: Haydels duck calls.
Alot of the tone comes from bending the reed up/down, not cutting it.
You'll fuck a call up kwick trimming on the reeds

Re: Haydels duck calls.
This is a stabilized Birdseye Maple single reed that I got from a custom call maker up here. I got a matching goose call and they quickly became my new favorites. They have a great tone that I haven't gotten with acrylics.

Re: Haydels duck calls.
*First pick is 5 calls ive done the same thing too pluss a little filing to fine tune and you'll have a great call *Second pick is how reed should be inserted into tone board with bow facing up *Last pick is natural bow in reed

Re: Haydels duck calls.
Roger that. I thought you may have been messing with him. Everything I've read back in the day said to place the bow down against the tone board. Natural bend down. Apparently there's more than one way to skin this cat. Nice spread of calls you have there.

Re: Haydels duck calls.
Yes there are several ways to tune a call but the bow has always went up and away from the tone board. I take that back, its not as important on a double reed but on a single reed it makes more of a difference if installed wrong. THe more you file the tip down the raspier it gets the more you cut off the edges of the reed depending on the angle, changes the tone.

Re: Haydels duck calls.
Thats the call i won in an MMT contest when i first joined this sight, i tuned it and used it at the duck calling contest at the Furr festival in Cameron LA. Its a Single reed at that. My dad used it at a contest in south texas when we went deer hunting. I just so happened to have it when we went into town and the were having a festival and he won his age division... Didn't know ol' pops head it in him

Re: Haydels duck calls.
Good looking call. It can apparently walk the talk as well.
Not meaning to hijack this thread but I never realized we had any comp callers on here. I practiced for it for a while but never followed through with it.
On the original topic, I find the biggest difference between a any poly call like DC or haydels is the tuning and range. Poly just doesn't sound as well. Don't get me wrong a poly call will kill ducks but it doesn't have the range of big MVP or straight street.

Re: Haydels duck calls.
You should have a go with my calls, don't get me wrong a good wooden tone board carved just right is the ticket but a well tuned acrylic call is a great call, trust me i've got like 10 of them but the ones pictured are my favorites.

Re: Haydels duck calls.
That G2-L is an all acrylic, so is that Skull clad Southern Wind. I agree with Boudreaux, poly sounds good, but acrylic is hands down better.
