D two things you need to do

Post subject:  Re: Need Help!! Need rescue; boat sinking;no injuries

Ok so hee is a synopsis of the events leading up to the rescue. Dean Jr went to Henderson Lake to scout ducks yesterday morning. He left home at about 4 am spud down at his usual spot. He stayed there until about 10 then began exploring eventually ending up in the coulee into the "plattin" as we call it or bay "T'ien". He made it all the way into the bay. On the way back he heard the sound of wood cracking. It turns out the area we had repaired hastily last year was taking in water. The epoxy filler be used to fill the hole you see in the first photo above disintegrated into shards of epoxy. Dean Jr had repaired the hole by placing a flat piece of wood up against the bottom with wax paper between the bottom and the piece of wood. He then filled up the hole with epoxy. Once that cured he removed the wood and wax paper which left the hardened epoxy fully replacing the hole that was once wood. It was a good idea bu apparently not good enough. The epoxy may not have cured properly and became brittle.

So what I'm now going to do is cover the entire bottom with a sheet of 3/8's inch marine plywood. I will then have a bottom that will be more than 1/2 thick which should be able to withstand pretty much any punishment including stumps. I'll take pictures of the repair process and post them up for anyone interested.

Saw the boat earlier at Bruce's. Hell of a hole. Are you allergic to aluminum or something?? Hopefully the double bottom will fix your problem I'm just afraid the next time you risk the chance of losing the entire rig if in deeper water.

Wood boats were the only boats for hundreds of years. You can make it work.
