Post subject:  GPS AND DOWN IMAGING TRANSDUCER MOUNTING ?

Guys got a navigation/ depth finder but am leary about on how to mount the transducer! I would prefer to use some epoxy and mount on the inside of the boat has any one done this with there depth finder on aluminum boats. I know most people can do it on fiberglass but how does it effect the performance of the item, I am just worried about ripping it off when running shallow. can you post pics on how some of you mounted yours to the transom or in the hull. Thanks

This is how I mounted my humminbird transducer. Sits just above the bottom of the boat. It doesn't give a depth reading if I'm goin over 6mph but It's never been ripped off in the mud or anything when I backup. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1354632789.488408.jpg

I'm no expert on transducers or depth finders but we mounted one too high and you wouldn't get accurate depth measurements or fish arcs. Dropped it down where it is just about flush with the bottom and worked perfect.

Like swampbilly said, you won't get a reading faster than 5-6 mph but I personally don't know of any that do.

We also mounted it where it can be adjusted up just in case.

I saw some on gator trax website that slide up and down like that. looks like it would work good.

Buy a thru-hull transducer and you'll be fine, if its down imaging and side iimaging it will have to be mounted outside the boat and will have to be the lowest part , nothing can obstruct the view or it will not work correctly. just had one installed on my CC boat.

Have you heard back from the manufacturer? I heard from an old timer radio tech that depending on the thickness of the alum and the frequency of the x-mitter some can function Not sure if the 1/8, 3/16 bottoms are too much as he was talkin bout old riveted boats Anyone brave enough to try out a thru hull transducer yet???

yeah sorry for the delay guys but i did here back from the manufactor and it will not work thru the aluminum with in hull mount it must be outside...due to it having side image and down image water temp, but however the instruction that came with the unit say it can mount in hull with fiberglass boats no thicker than 1 inch... so i guess i will go with a custom bracket like willet or look further into the one from cabelas

fish finder depth can be mounted in the boat and the skimmer will work , i would buy the shoot thru hull easyer to do . okay here is the short version. flood about 2-3 " water in boat , put transducer in a zip bag full of water , place in boat with brick or what ever to hold it down , drive at idle see it you can read , then stop take the bag with transducer in it hold in the water to verify that it was reading right if so mark spot . might have to move around in boat to get sweet spot try more than 1. then drain boat . i took a paint cap cut to where u had it open on both ends , NOW MIX A EPOXY FOR THIS APP. STRIR SLOW NO BUBBLES then tape cap down put some epoxy in it set transducer in then add more . oh yeah want to sand spot before NO BUBBLES pour slowly then let cure per instructions. it does work i have done it to 3 boats
wehw that was more typing then i have done
mac
