I been working on the farm the last few weeks and the geese have showed up 10,000 at a time. I had a few guys from Louisiana stop by and ask to hunt a field we had just cut and they tore them up. Just havent had time to hunt between school finals and getting all these winter wheat fields in place. The mallards are spotty but starting to pick up. The spoonbills are here and they dont look like they plan on leaving anytime soon with all the fields that are flooded up here.....most I have seen in years. With the dry summer we had all the farms around us are hurting for money and are flooding uncut fields this year like nothing I have ever seen. This is the first year that I have been seeing the redheads in the fields like they are we dont usually get them. The pintails showed up one day and were gone the next I dont know why they didnt even feed during the next day just landed rested and were gone. LOTS of greys flying around but they are sticking to the rivers and rice fields only not seeing a bunch in the flooded corn fields yet. I think this could be a year where we have alot of birds that die from the molded feed these farms left in the fields. Its been raining on and off every week and the fields I got out and walked all the grain was rotten and the birds were eating around me so its going to be a toss up. How are the marshes looking I hunting opening weekend down there and they are tore up seed wise from Issac. Not looking for areas just a report as to if the birds are staying and feeding or if they are just flying straight through. I checked the flooded timber holes we hunt but the amount of hunting pressure this time of year is keeping them from wanting to work.

On a very serious note, Im planning a big goose hunt in late jan early feb. would love to have a bunch of yal come up and kill the shit outta them with us. We been doing it for a few years and we killed over 200 last year with 6 guys for an wounded warrior hunt we put on. Ive had years where everyone promises to come up and then I end up putting out 700+ decoys and all the layout blind brushed up and no one showed up. End up going to one of the camps near our farm and they came out and we hammered the shit outta them. Not limits, no plugs, and no worries. We had six layout blinds and 1000+ socks and probably 2grand worth of full bodies and the two sided ones with the birds printed on them stolen out of the shed on our farm this year so we just been digging a hole and layin down a tarp and killing 50+ a hunt.

this is me and a buddy out scouting one of my rice fields the night before we came back and hunted them from a few days ago. Ignore the idiots talking haha we were alittle bit excited for that one. I have a better video but this happen so fast.

I'm game for a goose hunt let me know what to bring and a date. What part of Mississippi?

I can walk down to that field and shoot at them all afternoon and as soon as we quit they will be back into that field...cut down corn fields will do that this time of year. Im close to Tunica Mississippi about an hour from Arkansaw. All those birds in that video got up circled a time or two and then landed right back into the field no harm done. Thats only in one field we had three more than night with that many or more in them.

I see. We hunted some last week. They had birds but they also have so many fields they don't come back

The birds are in this field because of the location I think. All the fields that are close to main roads that they get in they get shot at all day and this one has about 3 inches of water in it right now from turing the pumps on two days before this. Some of the other fields we have that we way off the road and closer to the coldwater river that runs through here have 3-4x this many birds but your right it is still hard hunting them during the daylight hours right now because of the large number of fields flooded and still holding feed. We been letting them roost up and then setting up about 1000 to 1500 yards away from them the next morning and shooting them as they get up and start feeding.

you let me know when you want to do this goose hunt and i could get some buddies up there and we can throw up money and even help you set up all the decoys you want i shot my first goose last year on a hunt that we shot 15 on in the wax lake outlet and boy let me tell you im hooked

Alotta people used to shit talk shooting snow geese calling them sky carp, but when you have 500+ birds come in your face and so loud that you cant hear the electric calls it will get the blood pumping just as good as a flock of cans or mallards I think. Nothing like that first volly when 10-15+ birds just fall out the sky.

That sounds awesome! I have never had a chance to even shoot at a goose, we shoot plenty of ducks but the geese just don't come to the marsh in my area.

I grew up hunting the marsh myself and I do truly miss in while being up here at Ole Miss. Nothing like those sunrises and unlike some I really do love the smell of the marsh mud and salt on the early morning air. One thing I dont miss is dealing with the idiots and bullshit that was came with hunting down there. Only time I wake up at 3 up here is when I plan on driving from school to the farm and know Im going to have to put out alotta decoys. Field hunting is nice and I love flooded timber more than anything else, but I miss the marsh. Todays the last day of school till jan 21 so I will have alotta time on my hands for duck killing this year.

I can be there is 7 hours....gas cost there and back $200. I can go anytime. And I take back everything I've ever said about Ole Miss.

I will gladly make the drive no questions asked, and i can help out with putting out decoys and such, ive never been on a goose hunt before. so i have no idea what to expect, i hunt ducks the marsh in pearl river, La and can gladly trade a hunt for a crack at some geese.

Need to nail down some dates for this; sounds fun.
