 4 Stroke Yamaha's
I know this isn't a outboard site but you guys seem to know alot about outboards as well as mud motors, so I need some help! Look'n at a Alum. bay boat with a 225 4-stroke yamaha, the motor is a 01' model with what seem's to be very little use. I have called two friends that tournament fish but have very little input on a four stroke. Is a a good motor, will in hold up in the marsh, are there a lot of problems with this motor????? I would appreciate any info!

 Re: 4 Stroke Yamaha's
I have a 150 Yamaha 4 stroke on my Ranger Ghost. So far I like it. It may not have the top end of the two strokes but its quite and good on fuel. That's about all I can say about it though. Like Ole Brooks said, "There is ALOT of them out there!"

 Re: 4 Stroke Yamaha's
90% of the work boats around here run them so that should tell you something

 Re: 4 Stroke Yamaha's
I got a yami 250 on my robalo and it works well. Had big issues with bad gas seems to have straightened out now Stabil and changing the fuel filters and water fuel separator are common maintenance. Had issues with low pressure fuel pump / high pressure fuel pump, fuel restrictions etc... Thing is very finicky but when it runs its great! I get 2.7 mpg running 4800 rpm making 26-28 in the Robalo when we go off shore. great range for a little 22' boat with 110 ga tank.

 Re: 4 Stroke Yamaha's
If your talking about running around in the marsh with this engine I'd be wary of water pickups on all the engines I'd be looking at... Just a thought.
Make sure you carry a coat hanger... Those water pumps are a PITA when they suck up some mud or grass.

 Re: 4 Stroke Yamaha's
SOB sold the boat earlier today, call the house this morning while I was sleeping and told the wife someone showed up with cash and offered more than we had agreed upon(if the boat checked out on Monday morning). Shift work hell when ya can't get away to take care of stuff. Must be a sign are something! Thanks anyway for the input guy's!!!!
