Post Crappie
Anybody ever put crappie in a farm tank? I got some land twix Houston and San Antonio with about a 2 acre pond on it. I reckon it is about 8 foot deep in the middle. We had Big mouth bass in it when I was growing up. Had a lot of blue gills too. I would like to get a string of crappie going in there.

Any advice?

How warm does the pond get? Have you contacted a stocking expert?

Do some research. Crappie normally don't live well in small waters with other species. If you're going to make it strictly crappie, you'll need structure and grasses and what not. Like I said, research it

I have heard them called everything from Sac a lait to white perch.

I Don't know what temp the pond gets. When I was a kid you could swim down to the bottom in the middle and freeze you ass off quick. I don't know if it is still that way or not.

There is a lot of structure in the pond. All the old live oaks, that died in the 1952 when my father had the pond built, are still either laying sideways on the bottom or and one of them is still standing.

If it is spring fed they will probably be ok as long as there isn't catfish or bass to eat 'em.

They say to have at least a 5 acre pond. I've fished them in smaller ponds though. Need lots of bluegill for them to eat. You have to maintain them they will over populate.

I caught crappie one timelike in that pic with the white ice chest. It was in the 1970s. We hung lanterns in the trees and beat the living snot out of the crappie, all night long. I aint never got into them like that again. I want crappie fishing to be my retirement focus in a few years.
