Thinking of adding the big G&H pintail decoys. Like 24" long. Do they really work ?

you don't need big ass decoys...pintail decoys are good for changing up color in a spread. Regular sizes are fine.

I have about a dozen of the "magnum" GHG pintails, got them from a buddy that quit hunting.

I like them for my big bay spread when I can hunt out of the boat, toss them from the boat. They are heavy and I wouldnt want to pack them any distance.
They do show well from a distance because of all the white and the size.

If they hadn't of been free, i wouldnt own them though.

They are a fukn pain in the ass to carry in a sack that's for sure even the normal ones suck. Not needed in my opinion

If you hunt in big bays they work good, if you hunt marsh or timber don't need em

I tie all the cords in a knot (about a dozen and half) and throw them in the corner of the boat. But that's all I have in the bottom of the boat. All my guns, bags, etc stay in my boxes in my boat.

I think if your decoys are in the open, like open water bay, smaller decoys and more of them seems to help, but if you're ever in a situation where your decoys don't stand out (like thicker vegetation) magnum decoys seem to help. I also like a few goose floaters for that reason--they just add visibility (and I hunt in an area with tons of Canadas). Lots of times, the mallards land near the geese in my spread instead of the ducks. That said, mixing in some magnum decoys probably can only help you--it's just that they are way harder to carry, pack, more expensive, etc.

Same with geese. In snow, they stand out so magnums don't help you as much as say in a chisel-pointed field.

Two years ago I saw two old guys blinded up in a dumb spot with a giant drake ringer cut out of plywood on the outside of their wadded up decoys. Damn decoy was probably 3'x4'. They didn't shoot chit.

They're massive I have two of the massive cans, golden eyes and buffleheads. They're almost too big. But I have all or what diver decoys I have Texas rigged. Only really use them when hunting a bay for the dogs.

Go with the oversized buffleheads or coots. Big and still only like 39 bucks. Plenty contrast too.

Use to have a sweet layout rig. We made our own diver decoys. They ere b bills and they were 36". The heads were the size of softballs. Ducks loved them and they hid the layout rig well.

Shot a pintail last year at lake O. My buddies shoot almost every Florida duck species at lake O as well.

They scout before the season and pass on the ringers. Sometimes they are so picky that they don't shoot chit.

Also need to try the STA's. It's crazy. Loaded with every type of duck.

I've shot the STAs. Fun for a trip or two but really takes all the skill and dedication out of the hunt.

I've shot redheds, cans, widgeon, gadwall, woodies, and even a bufflehead on the O.

That doesn't mean I'm going to take up space in my boat or my spread with a bunch of decoys for those species. If you pass on ringers then you're going to have a lot of long mornings.

Bigger the better! We use goose decoys that look like dynasaurs, and duck decoys that look like geese. They like big deeks I guess

Regular sized decoys work just as well. Don't need more weight and more bulk.

I like the magnums & standards mixed. 1-2 dz of each. Most of mine are TX rigged. Still have a couple dozen with longer string for later in the season when the rivers get high.
I have a few heavy mono loops attached to my grab rails( heavy cord would work also), I hook the snap holding the decoys into the loop & let them hang just behind the deck. I haul 3 -4 dz all over 4 states like this w/ no issue.

I prefer large decoys in timber as I feel it makes them stand out

A bunch of small teal and a couple big ole herters mallard hen dekes, and 6-10 magnum pintails.....the mags show up better for high ducks and dont spook low ducks....if im hiking in then I go 2 dozen teal and 2 mag pins

Realism definitely adds to the effect. I love the Dakota's for that! And at 130.99 they aren't much more expensive that their competing decoys.
I found that price after I already bought two dozen. Lol just my luck
