Hey guys kinda new to all the mud motor stuff. I was wondering what's the advantage of a boat with a hunt deck. Also would it benefit me on a skiff. Haven't seen any skiffs with one. Plan on putting a gator tail on it. Probably going to get Charles Leonard to build it. He built my other boat that's in the boats and blinds forum under new rig. Any advance will be greatly appreciated. |

I like them because you don't get any water in the boat when reversing and stopping. I built a boat with a sport deck and short transom and when I'm reversing hard some water comes in the boat. |

If you are getting a gtr it is a must! keeps grass/mud/water from coming in boat for the most part . Easy to climb in/out boat. Great place for dog to sit and get in/out boat . Also make sure to reverse plate it also is a must . |

Thanks guys. Not sure what size the boats going to be but I leaning hard towards a skiff with a hunt deck. Does anybody know of any skiffs with hunt decks on them? Also should I go all 3/16" or should I do 1/8" sides with 3/16" bottom. |

I've seen a handful with Huntdecks, they look fine and it doesn't affect performance any. What motor are you going with? |

Definitely go with the huntdeck! There are a few skiffs on here with them, and they look slick! I have a GDSD (no reverse ![]() Edit: Great place to pee from. |

Is there a standard length on the hunt decks or is it personal preference. I looking for pictures with skiffs with hunt decks can't seem to find any. |

So if you took a 15ft boat and added a 20in hunt deck, in theory it will plain quicker and float the motor better. |

Hunt decks are silly. The disadvantages far outweigh the advantages. A place to piss, and a place to put tools a reason for a huntdeck? LOL |

I prefer no huntdeck. if you get one for people and dogs to get in and out of the boat when hunting then everyone has to walk past you everytime they want to get out of the boat or piss. The dog hunts off of the front deck in my boat so that would put him passing by me for every retrieve as well. They look cool for sure but in my opinion it will only become an inconvenience for the driver since everybody will want to use it. |

oh i forgot if you get the reverse plate and a tall transom then you dont have to worry about the motor pulling mud or water into the boat either. |

The main disadvantage will only be noticed by someone who works out of their boat and needs every foot of available space there is.......all the sportsman, duck commanders, salt lifers, weekend warriors,my paintjob is prettier than yours types....will never know the difference. Get yaself a huntdeck. ![]() |
