Angola ? I got to go there in two weeks, cousin is doing some time there and going for a visit. Not looking forward to it to be honest. It seems pretty much in the middle of nowhere.

You are right about being in the middle of nothing. They got a good rodeo and blues festival thing. I would not want to stay over night though.

Never been inside the prison. The Museum is pretty cool about the prison. The rodeo is the best rodeo you will ever go to. The crafts show is amazing along with the quality the inmates put into their products. It's a good drive, pick you up an Angola bloodline bloodhound while your there. They have their own bloodline and are some awesome dogs.

Went there on a trip in high school. Place is bad ass. Your reasons are a little different than mine. We had a good time got to ride around the place and the different jail cells. No interaction with any prison mates but we talked to a couple of trusties.

Lot of deer in that area. Been to the rodeo. If you haven't been you need to go...

If you're visiting a prisoner, you may not get to see much of the grounds, but it is one of the most beautiful places in the state. Once you're in the gate it really doesn't look like a prison. More like a plantation. They have cypress lakes, wooded hills, open fields.

All their food is produced on the grounds. Pretty cool place.

And it's nice to see prisoners out there in the sun workin' the fields.

I grew up in the area... Played baseball inside... Besides Death Row being right up front the building just to the right when you enter... Most of the East Side of the grounds in the community where the housing and ball parks are... It is a really interesting place... When it comes out you can see the documentary of "Six Seconds of Freedom" filmed by John Jackson... He has a few clips on youtube if you wanna check them out. I tried to get an early copy but i dont have it in my hands... It will be at the film festivals this fall so hopefully he can distribute it early next year.
