Post Summer Project
This summer I was looking to purchase an ATV for the lease I had joined. I started looking around at prices etc. I then focused in on the Rangers for versatility of hauling gear and people. So I started saving up for a good deposit on one and planned to finance the rest...

I caught an ad in craigslist for a mini truck and instantly was sold... I drove to NE of Dallas to get it and brought it back down to Houston and began the makeover. All I knew when I got there is that it ran, everything worked and they just didn't know what year it was. Turns out after some research it's a 1992 Suzuki Carry. 5 SPD, 4WD, Axle Lock (Auto Hubs), Differential Lock (Locker). When in 4WD instead of a "Low & High" setting it has a gear that becomes available called EL. The truck has some serious power and is a lot of fun to drive. I did a complete tuneup from new fuel lines, filters, cap & rotor, plugs air filter and replaced a missing oil cap. Here's a short narrative of the project:

I started off by removing all the interior pieces. The side boards, seats, back pad, head rests etc. I took them to a local upholster and had them redone.

Now for those that are not aware. A Carry is made by Suzuki. It's a Japanese Mini Truck and there are several different manufactures, the most common being this one and Daihatsu Hijet. They weigh 3,600 LBS are 3 CYL small engines, 4WD, Lockers etc. Apparently they are legal to drive on the road in LA so someone needs to help me get this thing titled over there and approved for on road use then I can apply here in Texas

The radio was shot and junk as you can see

I purchased a 2" lift for the truck and some heavier springs the lift was just some spacers placed on top of the struts. Quick note: the stock springs were designed for a 90lb Japanese man and I'm almost 2.5x that weight so I went with a 250#

Rear was just a shackle lift.

Prepping the bed for bedliner

New Interior (Waterproof marine vinyl)

I installed new atv tires & rims

New Radio

Speakers, before I added the spacers to clear the window.

Fender Flares (because rocks + side mirrors = expensive!!)

Sent the carb off and got it worked over by a group that specializes in these. They are in Ohio, when I installed it, I turned the key and it ran perfect.

Rear rack for carrying people & gear - yes those are cup holders

After powder coated & seats added.

Need to say thanks to TXSHOCKWAVE for building the rack for me.

Turned out really nice Coe! I think you'll be happier with this than the Ranger, especially with an air conditioned cab

It's not A/C'd unfortunately but the heater and windshield is very nice. Newer models come with A/C. Looking forward to the heater for Wednesday when it's supposed to be 33

Nice job, Coe. What's the top speed? I bet if you got it registered as street legal, it would be for low speed streets; I think 35 mph or less. Either way still cool!

To get it registered...I'd have to "sell" it to someone in LA. They would have to title and register it for plates etc. Then "sell" it back to me cause Texas reciprocates vehicles that have license plates from out of state. Basically cause in LA you can drive them on street /register. Texas they are "imported" for Farm use only... Technical loop hole you can around.

I've had her up to 55 MPH on the streets.

Coe, will this lil truck get through mud and ruts like a Ranger will? Or is it more limited?
