 best half ton 4x4?
It's looking like I'm about to have to put around 2k in my front end which I am not doing.. I've put too much money in my truck and told myself I'd Sell it if any more expensive problems existed... so that's what I'm going to do. Plus I'm tired of 9mpg..
With this being said, I'm not getting anything new. More than likely it will be around a 09 -12 due to me not wanting to spend a ton..
Based off of experience, what would yall recommend? I want something that gets decent fuel mileage.. I looked at a 2011 Ford lariat that I really liked and am really leaning towards... but who knows what will happen.

 Re: best half ton 4x4?
My dodge gets horrible gas mileage pulling anything. Got 11 mpg going to caddo last weekend. But if I can get lined out on the highway not pulling anything it gets about 15 or so.
I had a 07 Chevy like yours and it was a good truck and got way better mileage than my dodge.
My dad has a 2011 F150 2wd and it seems like a good truck. Plenty of power and rides good.

 Re: best half ton 4x4?
What do u consider decent gas mileage? I had a 04 ford f150 4x4 that got 13 mpg any way u drive it, dodge hemi 4x4 that got 16 any way except for pullin a load, then it was really bad. Jeeps, well I had a 304 v8 and str8 6 both with 12 mpg. Toyota 4x4 I have now lucky to get 15. Ur best bet for mpg would prob be a chevy.

 Re: best half ton 4x4?
X2 on the chevy/GMC. As long as you don't go crazy with the tires, lift, ect... you will get pretty decent gas mileage. Especially if you have someone tune it for you. I had a bully do in my 08 gmc and it was ok. Custom tuning is the way to go though. Mine leveled on stock tires I got 20+ mpg out on the highway if I drove it right, normal driving over 19mpg. Dropped to 17ish with 285 BFG KM2's on it, then down to 15-16mpg when I added the winch and brush guard.

 Re: best half ton 4x4?
I have a '10 Silverado Z71 crew cab. 1 1/2" leveling kit, 33 Toyos on factory 20s, K&N cold air and a custom tune. If I drive it right, 18-19mpg but it usually stays around 16-17mpg. I like it but if I was going to get another truck, I would get a F-150 Fx4 with the Ecoboost.

 Re: best half ton 4x4?
I had a 2009 silverado "vortex max" Z71. Stock 17's it averaged 16mpg's with 3.73's. I put some 33" tires on it and it dropped to 14 no matter how u drove it. Seldom kicked in 4clyinder mode after tires. Power was ok, it had a black bear custom tune. Someone hit me and it was totaled...I did have a few issues with it and the dealer after 4 attempts fixed it. Tranny issues...
Got a 2010 ram 4x4 after...IMO, all around better truck then the Chevy! More room, rode better and way more power. Milage stock averaged 17 and I added some 33/12.50/20's and it dropped to 15.
Now have an ecoboost....u probably won't find much used in the eco's so I would go dodge of 5.0 f150...

 Re: best half ton 4x4?
I have owned several Fords a GMC and a Tundra. As much as I would like to say the Ford's were the best the Tundra out did them all. It got around 15 over the life of the truck including towing boats and work trailers and had the best power of any of them, rode better, handled better and had better brakes. In 120k miles made not one repair that was not maintenance. It was not a perfect truck but if I had not gone up to a 3/4 ton I would have bought another one.

 Re: best half ton 4x4?
If you can find one of the latest 5.0 F150 4x4s you could be lookin' at 18+ mpg at highway speeds 55-60 and 14-17 mpg pulling a boat at the same speeds. That's on oversized mt's without recalibrating speedo... It really was getting some good mileage on the stock tires and they say when recalibrated for tire size they don't lose squat either. Mines a '13. Out of all the 1/2t trucks I've ever owned I think this one is all around the best so far. Good luck, hope ya run across a cream puff.

 Re: best half ton 4x4?
My chevy has given me more problems than I care to mention. It Is one of the worst engineered, worst riding trucks made at the time. Now granted it is a 05 with a 4" lift and 35s I still don't see a stock being any better. It's just not made as well as a dodge or ford

 Re: best half ton 4x4?
Those ecoboost are overrated. I had a 4 wheel drive that did no better than 16 on the highway. Habd calculated. Didnt impress me towing either. The truck is really nice on interior and exterior. Whatever you get just make sure it suits you. I daily drive a 2 wheel drive chevy and its one of the best riding trucks ive been in.

 Re: best half ton 4x4?
The only complaint out of most eco owners is the mpg isn't quite what they say. I have 2. Work truck 2wd with 3.15 rear end 19mpg. My personal 4wd with 3.55 rear end and 33" Toto Mts is 13.5 average mostly city. I have no complaints though.

 Re: best half ton 4x4?
i love the eco..ton of power when ive pulled heavy trailer loads and i drive an hour each way to work mostly interstate nd im always between 20-23 mpg which is odd because i have buddies with the same truck and drive about the same mph and cant get over 20 mpg

I've owned about six GMC/ Chevy trucks and all of them had 150,000+ miles on them when I traded them in. And besides normal maintenance never had any problems

 best half ton 4x4?
I went from a f-150 to a tundra. Not apples to apples cause there was a 10 year age difference, but I test drove them all and the power of the tundra sold me. With a 6" lift and 35s, best mpg highway (70-75) is 14 and 11 to 12 pulling my boat. Anything bigger than my boat, mpg quickly goes to 8-9.

 Re: best half ton 4x4?
I just pulled my 22' bay boat to and from Gulf shores this past week. Thats with truck loaded with the whole familiy of 5 and whole bed full of shit and boat full of gas....
The truck never downshifted once on any overpass or hill or headwind.....held 1900rpm at 70mph no problems....
No other gas engine vehicle will ever do that or even come close...It pulls just like a little diesel. Just dont get quite the economy of one...

 Re: best half ton 4x4?
I've recently gotten a 2009 F150 Lariat. Haven't taken it on the highways yet, but around the city I average 15-16 mpg's. I wouldn't even look at another truck after driving this one.

 Re: best half ton 4x4?
id look for a tundra or f-150, not a gooberment motor.
my f-150 with the 5.0 gets 17-18 on average mixed driving leveled on 33's , towing my boat still average 13-14 and that was a long trip up to flint, staying on flat highway I can get 15 towing boat
