Now this morning I'm in Georgia hunting woodys I'm shooting blind side number 2s and xpert number 3s I've nicked my limit which is 3 out of the sky like no other but the damn thins just go to swimming I shot one at 50 yards 5 times on the water before it went under the water I never found it shot another 3 times and never found it it's really puzzling the piss out of me Bc I was looking so damn forward to cooking these things up for a party I recon I'll have to start shooting bbs

the "clean up" shot is always the worst - try #4 or 6 shot for clean up shots on the water.

I miss lead so badly.

I had same trouble with factory chokes. I now have a pattern master mid range and finish most cripples with one shot.

I learned this after i shot at a cripple 3 times and it kept swimming. Then my buddy lays it out with one shot.

This is why I always keep a cheap box of shells in my bag. Nothing worse than wasting good shells on cripples

I would have this problem on occasion, more than I liked, so I purchased a Kicks high flyer mod. choke and now I rarely have a cripple. If I do it's because I took a long shot which is rare. I shoot 85% to 90% of my ducks at 25 yrds or less and the choke / shell combo (Drylok #2's) stops em dead in their tracks. None of my hunting buddies have aftermarket chokes and even thought we are shooting ducks this close they have cripples more times than not it seems.

Shoot 4s or even 6s out of improved cylinder or modified at the tightest for woodies. No need for big pellets or tight chokes. Shouldnt be shooting at them beyond 40yds anyway.

Maybe some of you boys need to go out and buy the early videos that Phil Roberston used to put out as the The Duck Commander and watch how he does it.

Im sure its mostly chokes like these guys have said BUT...dare i say its probably because Winchester made the ammo, their stuff likes to let things live (then they cover it up). Guess one day ill have to post the story why im against them but i would say pattern your gun and do so with different ammo as well as what you have

Chokes mean inches. Most miss in feet. I shoot a LM extended choke from Briley and use 3" #3's at everything. Don't know why but that's what my Benelli likes. They fall dead with that combo of shell and choke.

66 days to go till opening. I'll post up some videos with factory open choke in my M2 and a box of blue federal. I don't hit everything but not much gets away.

I shoot a factory mod and estate 3-1/2" #1's. It does a pretty good job, most of the time the way we hunt our decoying shots are 30+ yards and I have very few cripples.

You wanna here bulletproof. This season on a late season hunt we had 100s of mergansers keep coming in and that's all we saw. So I said what thehell why not. 20yards folded it in the seeks and shot it 3 times on the water before it got back up flew away. This happens 4 times!!!!

Mergansers aren't bullet proof they just taste so bad they are doing you a favor by limping away
