We gave them 150 billion as well.

I like it, just got back from Arkansas and saw $1.39 on the way. Lots of people traveling, many of the restaurants and stores were packed with folks... When it was $4.00, the roads were vacant, everyone stayed home, local business suffered, just because you folks that live in the oil city's think it's bad, it's actually better in other places in the US. People are getting out more and spending that other $2.00 elsewhere which is a good thing.

My 2011 is paid for and gets no where near 18mpg so I guess I'm just SOL all the way around

And Dean, the deal might be good if we were dealing with ethical people who would uphold their end of things. Unfortunately we are dealing with terrorists that will do whatever the hell they want anyways and the Washington administration knows it. That's the part that isn't smart.

Well it finally bit me last week. Cut 40% of the company, all of the Drilling and Completions folks, me included. Sucks but hopefully it turns around soon. Paid $1.29 for diesel in el campo. Yikes.

Post Re: Oil Prices
I am a production operator in the GOM and just would like too add my .02. I know a lot of people out there are happy with the low cost of gas and the fact that it is giving them a little extra spending money on the weekends and what not but I assure you its just a matter of time before you feel the effects of these low prices. You can already see it in the stock market. I hope for everyone's (oilfield and non-oilfield workers) sake that they make it through this crunch untouched. I am still employed at this time but our company is a small one and last year had roughly 130 layoffs. Its no much compared to major companies like Chevron and BP but for a company our size it was a lot. I also find it funny when some people talk about the oilman as being overpaid, I would like to touch on that as well. Most of us in the Oilfield make a nice living but it comes at a major cost. We work over 6 months a year away from our families. We miss our children's birthdays, first words, first steps etc. We work 8 days, 7 nights on and 6 days home. Freezing cold in the winter and hot as hell in the summer. There is no Christmas, thanksgiving, Easter or any other holiday out here. Also a lot of these "Overpaid" oil guys are the ones supporting all the local businesses. If the oilfield collapses what will you do then? Be a carpenter? Who will hire you? open a restaurant? who will be able to afford to eat there? No matter what you will eventually be touched by this downturn of oil prices. I have a 2 year old and a 2 week old at home so my job is very important to me and my family. Luckily I have a wife that believes in saving and I can make it for a while if need be and support my family for a while but seeing friends in drilling that been laid off for over a year now struggle with families to keep food on the table is hard and depressing. Unemployment is something like $240 a week, that's less than $1000 a month. Ridiculous when you look at the amount of taxes most of us pay a year.

Post Re: Oil Prices
When oil prices were lower, before this 100+ a barrel, there wasn't a crunch. When the economy as a whole was at its best, oil prices weren't even close to 100 a barrel. It's easy to say we will all feel it, but that's not accurate. I knew plety of oilfield workers that made fine money back then, just not what it became. And there are many forms of employment that don't bring that kind of money that also have people missing holidays, weekends, kid's first steps, words, etc. I don't in any way begrudge you for making that money, but don't for one second pretend it's not worth it to you. If it was, you'd find something else to provide for your family, and while it may or may not be as much money, it would put food on the table. And yes, the oilfield supports a lot of local businesses in some areas, but those businesses either were there when oil prices were low, and did fine, or they'll survive or not with things the way they are now. A large majority of the area I live in would feel nothing but relief if the low oil prices would trickle down to the shelves like the spiked when oil prices rose. The whole world doesn't suffer from low oil prices like yall do when the price drops. I don't wish it bounced from so high to so low, but it has. If it would sit somewhere in between , then yall would have steady employment, steady pay, and we wouldn't have stupid high prices on everything from eggs to electricity. My job doesn't depend on oil. Never will. The prices will go back up too. That businesses that it supports at those high prices aren't the large majority. It's a lot more local than you'll admit. Does it affect people I care about? Yep. But it also makes things a lot tougher on a much larger group of that circle when it goes back up. So yeah, I'll be touched by the downturn of prices, but not in the way I keep hearing from yall simply because I live in louisiana. I hate people willing to work are losing their jobs, but there are some of those people that had those jobs at my friends, family, and my expense. I get that jobs exist because other pay for goods and services, but when something is overpriced like oil, and it crashes like it has, the pendulum has swung the other direction, and I'm not wrong for being relieved from that, and not having the sympathy that the oilfield didn't have for me when I was cutting costs because of the higher prices of the necessities.

Was told years ago live off your base pay not your wife's pay or your overtime or per diem so when shit hits the fan you are able to handle it also make sure don't over spend on bullshit keep enough money to make it 6 to 12 months just saying. I hope he oil business picks up because I have a bunch of friends that depend on it.

Lawyering has been experiencing a glut of lawyers for a long time. We work twice as hard now as we did 30 years ago for about the same rate of pay. It's pretty bad right now. I would not recommend it as a profession to anyone. Compounding the issue for young lawyers is many are strapped with huge educational debts. It's a travesty what law schools have done with the cost of a Jusis Doctorate.

Here in the Midwest the price of oil directly impacts corn, milo, and bean prices. When the price of oil is high. The price of corn is high, due to the oil industry's large demand for ethanol(for gasoline)... that's not the case right now. It works out better if there is a happy medium. But it doesn't hurt the farmers until harvest time. We have another 7 months before we feel it here. But the plus side is if your farm is big enough it doesn't really matter what the grain prices are. You'll still profit just not as much as the year before

In my opinion I feel like they should cut out all non pertinent classes for degrees. General studies is a waste of time. You should only have to take classes that are in your degree spectrum. Why the fuck did I have to take philosophy and ecology, for a damn criminology degree? It's stupid and a waste of money. Just a way for the U to get your fucking life's earnings in their pocket

A universal education is cool in theory, it makes you have a more rounded education, but the only good that does you is being able to have a conversation with other intellectuals about things like literature and music. Have you ever had a conversation with anyone about classic literature or music history, probably not anyone yoy care about, but if you are lucky enough to get a job in your major, you don't use anything but your major specific classes. I guarantee cops don't use college algebra, in all the careers I've had I use basic math. Or simple accounting. Which is basic math in long form. I didn't get a job in my major because it doesn't pay as well. I went to school for something that fascinated me and wasted a bunch of money.
