Fuck that. I'm not trying to sink. I have rough moments in Lake Palourde. Offshore water changes in a second. We take the big boat for that

 Re: Mudboat offshore
"Light chop in protected waters" over the marine radio has a whole other meaning offshore if you're in a mudboat.

I won't even take a straight shot across the lake with a slight chop...no way you'd ever talk me into going offshore.

 Re: Mudboat offshore
Not that I'm thinking about doing it! Saw a video of a guy out in a john boat with an outboard pretty ballsy. But with that being said sometimes that gulf is slick as glass

 Re: Mudboat offshore
I don't duck hunt in the ocean, so I've never been offshore in mine.
However, every year without fail when we're fishing a few miles offshore around the barrier islands, we run 3' to 4' seas for miles to get out there, and when you go around the lee side of the island, there will be some guy in a 14' flat boat with an old 25 outboard on it. I've even seen em' have small kids in the boat with them.

If you're going to go off shore you better be prepared... I'm talking the following safety equipment or you deserve to never be found:
Life Jackets with reflectors (Type 1) Waterproof VHF (Portable) EPIRB Flares

 Re: Mudboat offshore
Wouldnt do it with a mud motor, but I have been up to 4 miles out in my 1542 war eagle with a 25merc on the back. Caught snapper and kings. I wouldnt suggest it but if you do it you have to leave really early and pay very close attention to the weather. Worst part was getting through the pass. Used to go pretty regular out of panama city but not anymore.

 Re: Mudboat offshore
Not that anybody this dumb would actually have insurance to begin with....but I can practically guarantee that most insurance policies on mudboats won't provide coverage if your boat sinks or, more importantly, somebody gets injured offshore.

 Re: Mudboat offshore
it can be done with the right conditions... its the same thing with people being scared to cross the river,,, just dont be a jackass... 24" sides with a decent rake youll be okay on calmer days.

 Re: Mudboat offshore
Know of two that went 12 miles out from Fresh Water City in Pecan Island. Wish I still had the picture, I called bull till I saw the platform # in the back ground. They knew they had plenty of back up at the camp.

 Re: Mudboat offshore
If I knew where to launch out of down here I would prolly do some heavy research on the weather and wait for the absolute perfect day and go, but I wouldn't go far. And def wouldn't take my son I would go alone. Maybe with the dog
