Pulling an empty tandem axle trailer !
I know a single axle trailer needs weight added when hauling an empty trailer but would a heavier tandem axle trailer need to be weighted down as well ? Will be hauling it empty on a 4 1/2 hour drive . The trailers weight is 800# and is rated for 6,000 lb

Re: Pulling an empty tandem able trailer !
i make a 4.5 hour drive quite a bit with an empty single axle trailer, i dont see any problems with a dual empty.

Re: Pulling an empty tandem able trailer !
I bought a new aluminum 6x12 3000# trailer last week (single axle), I never had a problem pulling my other utility trailers, but this one bounced uite a bit till I put the tube sand that was in the back of my truck in front of the axles

Re: Pulling an empty tandem able trailer !
Yes but would wou think a tandem axle would have quit a bit more weight 800 lb to be exact then a single axle?

Re: Pulling an empty tandem able trailer !
I don't care about it being heavy or light . Bouncing it the issue. I gotta drive 4.5 hours on texas roads ( ours are worse just saying ) . I want the trailer in one piece when I get there lol

Re: Pulling an empty tandem able trailer !
You could always ratchet strap a few cinder blocks to the frame or the bunks. When you get where you're going, take them off and throw them in the truck.

Re: Pulling an empty tandem able trailer !
I was thinking of filling 2 big drums of water and u sing that on my axle. Would 2-80# drums make that much of a difference you think ? A few people have been telling me the extra axle will weigh down the trailer just find long as I'm not goin 70 on a country back road.

Pulling an empty tandem able trailer !
Pull it empty. It may bounce a bit but will be ok. Unless it's a POS trailer, then don't put it on the road at all.

Re: Pulling an empty tandem able trailer !
Dude your really over thinking this. Put some weight on it so you'll have a more comfortable ride. And tongue weight is probably mor important than it right over the axle.

Re: Pulling an empty tandem able trailer !
The only thing it will do is give you a more comfortable ride in the truck. The springs on the trailer won't work without any weight. So it willl bounce for every little bump.
