Just started running myself. You guys that do, do you have a favorite android app that tracks routes and keeps accurate distance?

I don't use my phone to run. We have trails by my house. I just use google earth to measure the routes I run. If you want to stay serious about it, some of the new watches are very good. There are watches that track your route, calorie burn, heart rate, and store your music, altitude traveled, and the list goes on.

I may get one when I fill up my piggy bank. First half marathon of the summer is over Independence Day.

I've dl'd a couple. Guess I'll just swap around and see what works. Went to visit my sister this wkend and caught the bug. She did a half marathon and my wife and oldest daughter did the 5k. I've always been in pretty good shape due to work but I smoke and have bad eating habits. Gonna try to turn this shit around tho. Heading to the md this afternoon for a script for Chantix. Going to change my eating habits and I'm registered to run my first 5k this weekend.

I run 3 or 4 times a week. Get a Fitbit and be done with it.. It monitors everything from the quality of sleep your getting, heart rate, distance traveled, steps taken. All kinds of stuff

This is what I use. It's the free version. I just use it to set goals for myself and keep track of my distance.

I never tried anything else, so not sure it's the best.

Polar seems pretty good too. I've been looking at the various options, have a coworker that does triathalons, showed me his Polar and the software. Pretty good stuff. I'm looking at the Polar Loop for the specifics it provides

I used runtastic this morning. Has quite a few options and a couple things come free that you have to pay for with the others. The coach option is pretty cool. Gonna have to make a shoe investment this week before I get a watch. These new balance aren't gonna cut it.

I used to use a fibit then I started a different route without the fibit. I found that my different new routes are actually much longer than what I was clocking with the fibit. For me, not knowing how far I have run until I clock it with the truck, is actually a surprise. I used to do 6 miles, last run was 11. Maybe it's this time of year or I get in a grove. Either way I like pushing it and not knowing until later.

I wouldn't mind trying a pair of under armor shoes. I've been wearing Brooks Ghost series for a few years now and they've been great.

Brooks are great as well, I just like a near weightless shoe, and the new Apollo series are fucking nice. And I would say it is nearly like running barefoot, but as I tell everyone I know try a set on, find a bench and jump off in the store and land on your heels, if you are worried about cushion under the ball of your foot you are running too much on your toes. Policy has always worked for me. But I never run more than 4 or 5 miles, EVER!

Gonna try to get a good shoe because I'm as flat footed as s duck. Going to check out brooks and maybe hoka. A local running store evaluates your walk and run and makes recommendations from that so I'm going to go that route and hopefully get it right the first time.

Post subject:  Re: Any runners?

i've been an avid runner for many years. By far I don't claim to be the best or fastest. I do this sport to challenge myself mentally and physically. Plus as a paid firefighter it helps me stay in the shape required to preform when needed. As far as shoes go, I swore by Mazuno's for many years. Now I won't wear anything else but Hoka's. With having a bulging disc in my lower back shoes are definitely something I don't skimp on. Happy feet make for a happy runner.

Training watches is all personal preferences, I used a TomTom multi-sport for the last few months. It can be used to track running, biking and swimming. The only reason I recently switched to the Garmin 920 is due me giving triathlons a try and you can't switch from one stage of a race without closing the workout and switching to another sport. The plan is to dabble a bit in the tri-sprint's for a year or so and see how that goes before committing to a half or full triathlon. The life of a tri training is very demanding and consumes a lot of time...

If anyone is looking to pick up a good watch for good price send me a PM, looking to sell my TomTom Multi-Sport now. I've been waiting for someone to come through that said he wanted it for a few weeks now, getting tired of waiting....

No I don't have an arch...lol. Very flta footed. But I walk on the outer edges of my feet like someone would with high arches. Tried on some hokas but they were almost too spongy.

I never thought I would go on mmt and see a shoe discussion. Strike one was a sailboat topic. Strike 2 was a fly fishing topic. This is strike 3. You all are required to attach a rainbow flag to your avatar now

The more collateral people that you can un-intentionally offend with your intentional offensive posts the better – keeps the pot stirred only enhancing the overall quality of any thread

My neighbor came over the other day and asked if I'd be her jogging partner. I told her I would first have to check with my cardiologist. Well, he nixed the idea. I gave her your cell number so you can expect a call in the next day or two. You might want to check with YOUR doctor before you make a decision... just saying!

^^ frog I'd chase that before any ice cream truck and I'd gladly deal with the chaffage caused by the mushroom head pointing me in what direction to go.

Like many others, I like my Brooks shoes. Am currently running in the Glycerins as well. They don't last me too long, as I've been averaging about 40mi a week. But, they definitely are a great shoe!
For watch, I use the Garmin Forerunner 220, but there are a ton of good watch options as well.
Same goes for apps. I do prefer Runkeeper, though. Free & seems to run very smooth. Have been using it for a long time now.
