Post Anybody driving a Dodge Eco Diesel?
Just checking to see if anyone has one and how they like it. My wife ordered hers this week and now she has a six week wait. My pard went from a Dmax to a Eco diesel and loves it. I'm still pulling heavy plateboats and love my Dmax.
Let me know how your Eco is doing.

I bought mine back in jan, no issues, put a little bigger tire on it, stays at 22.3 mpg most of the time, reports say summertime wetter you will see alot higher averages and if I don't use cruise control I can get even better. Also put bilsteins up front to level it out

I ordered one 3 weeks ago, not one dealer around here can keep them on the lot, I also just ordered the chassis, gonna put a flat bed on it, A friend of mine really likes his and average mph is 25.5, That pretty much sold me on one ,with having to drive great distances to get anywhere here..

Anyone put the pencil to paper to see the cost difference between the gas and diesel engine in the long run?

Diesel cost more per gallon.
Higher maintenance costs.
Higher cost of diesel engine.

I know it gets more mpgs but what's the $$$$ difference in the long run?

The actual difference was only in the few dollars when I did it before I bought the truck, but either way I bought it because I wanted it, not really just for mpg, but over my FX4 it pulls my boat better and ALOT better mpg.

Gas engines are good for 200,000 miles these days if maintained properly.

Most people don't keep vehicles long enough for that to even come in to play.

I'm not knocking the diesel. Just most people look at MPGS and nothing else, thinking they're saving money.

I think if you tow a lot and drive your vehicles into the ground, the diesel starts to gain an edge. When I did the calculation, gas was better for me (and I do drive to 200,000+ on my vehicles).

I bought 1 for a service truck so far so good. No complaints about problems but it only has 43,000k so reall just brok in.I was hearing about the new Nissan trucks? They are supposedly comming out with a 5.9L Cummings diesel engin to me that would be the perfect motor for a 1500 truck anyone hear about them?

Absolutely no savings going with the diesels. I get 12.5 mpg towing my boat with the diesel and 6.5 mpg with the gas motor. Cost of engine, maintenance and price of fuel come into the equation and I am losing money. I only keep a truck for 2 or 3 years. It is so worth it though when I am towing at 90mph to get the fishing spot 5 minutes earlier.

I run a standard diesel so I can tow our camper easier but there is no way to justify the cost difference with it versus gas. Everything about it costs more and the truck falls apart way before the engine. With that said, I love it and might just buy another one. Here is a mileage comparison to use for food for thought based on 30k miles per year and it shows how the Eco will save you on fuel but does not take into account the extra cost of truck, oil changes etc. Over a five year life you would save around $6300 versus the standard diesel and about a $1000 more than a gas motor so the Eco definitely makes it more competitive!

Diesel (not eco)
30,000/17.2mpgx$2.89 per gallon= $5040.70
Eco Diesel
30,000/23mpgx$2.89=$3769.57
Gas
30,000/15mpgx$2.39=$4780.00

Post Re: Anybody driving a Dodge Eco Diesel?
Here is my rational. My wife wants a truck. I have a fleet of boats for my business and one diesel truck to pull a boat to and from the river. Should something happen to a boat I can grab another. Should something happen to my truck I'm dry docked. I asked my wife if she would be interested in a Eco diesel so she could have her truck and I could have my back up vehicle should something happen to my Duramax. Its a win win for both of us.
It will be for her to go buy mulch and 2x4's. However should something bad happen to my truck I can have a truck to keep on keeping on.
We had to order it due to limited number of Eco diesels on the lots. It will not be used for very many miles however when we buy a vehicle we usually drive it for 15 yrs or so.

If we had to justify everything we buy based on doing the right thing most of us would have to give up hunting and fishing. If you like and want it then sometimes that is enough. Hope you enjoy it and it lasts the 15 years you are looking for.

I've been curious about the ecodiesels for a while now. My only problem is that I haven't seen one that looks all that great yet. Last I was told, they weren't available in the sport package, which looks the best to me.

Damn I don't see above 24 lol, my tires are just a tad bigger than yours, but have no idea why I don't see better, but I only have 6500 miles so far

My pard from St Louis said he was getting 28 mpg with the stock set up when he bought his eco however he seen my Duramax on 20's leveled so he went and got him some Hankooks ATs on 20s and his mpg dropped a couple miles. We ordered my wifes truck with factory 20's. Should know something in a month or so.

Schmitt nice rig. My wifes truck is going to be white. However she was flipping back and forth on the white and the color of your truck.

Hell I can get 25 mpg on my 6.7 3500. It's been de-epa'd with a 5" back from the turbo. Still doesn't make money sense....I'd have to get about 50 mpg to see a payback.
It hauls a 40' cattle trailer full with no prob. No gas engine will do that for long.
