Post subject:  Vacation to LA in Sept/Oct

My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to LA at the end of September or early October this year. Our plan is to spend a day in New Orleans, a day in Baton Rouge (visiting some of her family) and maybe go down to the gulf coast for a few days. I'd like to do some fishing while I'm there. What are the must see sights and where do I have to eat? Any tips on fishing as far as places to go or should I hire a guide? We don't know if we're going to drive or fly (w/boat, w/o boat)

What he said^^^

Pm me and I can tell you about our trip down there. We didn't get out and about too much, we drove straight down and fished pretty hard. If you are rod and reel fishing it wouldn't be too hard to freelance, but I was glad we went with a guide for Bowfishing.

there are a bunch of guys down here that would be happy to point you in the right direction. you may be able to fish with someone for free.

bump this thread closer to your trip as well.

btw sept is teal season down here :D you should plan around that

and if you can go to BR while there is a LSU home game, its an experience.

In BR, go eat at Louisiana lagniappe. Best food in town.

Thanks for the suggestions so far! I'll be sure to bump this topic when the time get closer. Right now we're trying to figure out how much time we'll need.

I'm trying to get some more specific plans for my fishing portion of our trip. I would like to go after redfish and maybe speckled trout. Any guides/outfitters/ lodges anyone of you could recommend? I am flexible with where to go on the coast as we don't have those plans set in stone yet.

Somebody on here can take you redfishing or point you in the right direction. It's pretty easy to catch them. They're pretty abundant. No need to pay a guide for that.

The trick is I'm trying to avoid. Bringing my boat and my own gear since we will be driving my girlfriend's escape down.

Update: October 3-10 is our vacation. Will be in NOLA 10/4-7 then BR 10/8-11. Fishing is looking a little too spendy unless one of you guys can take us out (obviously I'd buy food, beverages, and fuel) anything we need to see that time of year?

If you were vacationing on my side of the state ( SW LA ) I would bring Yall fishing no charge. Not familiar with guides in that area. Enjoy y'all's trip !!

Alright we're down to the last week before our vacation. We are traveling down this Sunday but won't arrive at our Nola hotel until Monday morning because the prices for Sunday night are outrageous with the saints game. We are going to spend the night possibly somewhere in Mississippi on the way down. Any recommendations on where to stay or sights to see for that Sunday night/ Mississippi stop? Could be north LA as well

You could stay in West Monroe but I would think it would be out of your way. Probably somewhere over towards Jackson.

Go to Gulfport Mississippi and stay at the old Worth Motel for an old time Gulf Coast vacation experience. Buy some fresh shrimp and boil it at pool side. In New Orleans stay at the historic Monteleon and tell the doorman "Hotel Al", that I referred you.

We've got a list of things we're going to do after New Orleans. Visit Avery island, Abita brewery, maybe gatortail (if I can set up a tour this time of year) any other must see places, or must eat places?

Lucky Dogs and Beignets is the best food in New Orleans.
