Post I salute RangerP all those who have sacrificed for us
Thank you RangerP.

You know, my generation is the last to have had parents who served in WWII. Along with with all of the hunting stories I heard around the camp fire from his peers, I heard war stories of battles and escapades. Some how my father managed to get a position as mate on a sailboat in the Philippines used as R & R for high ranking officers. That's how he said he learned proper English because his first language was Cajun French. His only actual combat occurred when the occasional Japanies airplane would fly attack. He claimed some small arms fire brought one down nearby. He was one of the first to the plane after it crashed. He brought home after the war the pistol that the pilot was carrying.

He contracted TB as many did. There was no cure at the time. He spent a year in a VA hospital convelesing, The toll It took on his body shortened his life. He died in 1987 at the young age of 67.

There was the tank commander who fought in the battle of the budge
There was the soldier who was wounded in the shoulder by a sniper. His wound was treated with maggots. The scar was gruesome.
There was the soldier who Was captured by the Japanese and was a POW in the Batan death MARCH.
There were many more who died from whom no one heard of their stories.

I thank them all and those who have served all conflicts.

A simple thank you to those that have crossed the pond to sacrifice time and lively hood is better than trying to explain justification for anything.
