This last season I killed a drake widgeon and he had a snowy white head. It was solid white unlike the usually speckled white on their head and was really a beautiful duck. I was too busy during the season with school and all. So I want to know is it possible to mount a duck that has been fror upwards of 6 months? I know it's okay to freeze them for a little while but I didn't know if extended freezing would make it unable to be mounted. If so I'll just throw it away

Yea. Long as it's not horribly freezer burnt, it will be fine. Our taxi takes forever, sometimes a two year wait. Those birds stay frozen until he's ready to work on them..

Thank you! But I don't think it should be. the day I killed it I put it in the freezer up on a rack all by itself so nothing got damaged on it.

Best to put them head first into pantyhose, they keep for a long time for mounting

I tuck the head under a wing and either wrap in newspaper or a couple plastic bags. Make sure bird is dry before putting in, but yes that is no problem. I had one mounted all together was frozen over a year and a half

Dmax that's exactly what I did. I just put the head under the wing and it's in a giant ziplock bag so the feathers wouldn't get messed up. Gonna call the taxi this week and try to get it mounted!

Never wrap in newspaper... when I was hot and heavy into taxidermy, birds wrapped in newspaper were typically very dried out. I preferred zip lock or in panty hose then ziplocked.

Yeah I have never tried the newspaper, I just wrap in a couple bags, make sure they are sealed. Thanks frog, the guy I use is awesome, but a lil over year wait
