Post subject:  Need HVAC help to silence registers, return and outside fan

I'm in the process of installing a recording studio in a building with existing HVAC. I need to quiet the damn thing. For register noise I plan to pull off the registers and connect flex ducts suspended from the ceiling to run 8 feet out from the register in an S pattern to deflect the sound internally. What do I use to convert from the square register to round flex ducts?

Regarding the return, it a large square. What connector is available to convert that to flex duct or is there another solution to quiet it?

Regarding the outside fan and compressor, can I enclose it, are there noiseless fans I can substitute? Any recommendations?

Thanks

You can go to a hvac shop and get square to rounds or they can send you somewhere that can.

Are you saying that the grilles are loud and can hear the air coming out of it?

If so you need bigger flex and bigger grilles.

Also if the return air grille is near you might can hear that also. Needs a bigger grille also.

As for the condensing unit I wouldn't enclose it. That could cause many problems. That wouldn't let your unit cool as it should.

The noise is mostly mechanical. Just need to deflect the sound of blower through the two registers near the blower and the return. Very little noise from rest of registers farther away. Think there's something called a Z duct plelum for that.

Turn the air off when they rap. A lil heat never hurt anyone.

Why don't you just text your buddy o-bummer, and let him know it's for you and it's rap... I am sure he will have it done by Wednesday.

Only sure way to do it is to line the interior of the main trunk with 1/2" insulation. The flex lines will help. Also replace the blower belt if it has one. That is what most of the mechanical noise comes from

If larger and different duct designs don't do it, thre make white noise (not for your studio though) and active noise canceling systems ( but they can be pricey). Maybe you can get lucky and they will install one at the wrong studio for free.....

Noise is noise. You shouldn't segregate and discriminate[FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]

Go big or go home. Don't have a studio where you have to rig stuff. Do it right to start with and have pride in it. You will be embarrassed to be an established lawyer and have to turn off AC to work.
